Utah, SLC media, the PAC, and fortune telling.

The media here (KSL, 1320, etc) is pretty much telling the entire valley that Utah is a lock for the PAC. Its been fun watching the local media, the Utah homers, and actually paying attention to the news from all the other conferences. I may just pop some popcorn and surf the web all night.

My question, and this was on the MWC board too... with the Big XII potentially folding and the possibility of the MWC expanding even more, why would Utah want so desperately to get out?

Seems to me with the XII potentially going out, and BSU, TCU, UU, and BYU (so far...) in this conference, thats nothing but good news to the whole MWC.

Or is this all just posturing by people who really want to know whats going to happen... but don't?

I would really question the judgment of the utes jumping the MWC ship now of all times to be the last filler in a 16 team mega-conference, playing in the same division as Texas and OU. That sounds nice, but I think in reality being in the same conference as Texas is a death sentence to your program as far as competition goes.

Sure they would get a mega-TV deal worth many millions of dollars, but good luck ever seeing the light of day after getting stuck behind Big Tex.

But of course thats just the WYO-MWC homer in me speaking. Even if WYO was in a similar position though, I still don't think I would want our team to leave this conference, even for the extra $$$$. I love the MWC and now with Boise, it will be even better.

i still don't think utah is going anywhere though.

I honestly wonder how much of it is somewhat of a ploy to encourage the schools the pac 10 really want to join. I wonder because I've read on other sites and boards of a lot of reports out of Boise in the past where they were saying that they were going to the Pac 10. Even some of their recruits got quoted saying that. So who knows where this info comes from. It may all just be speculation and/or a lot of poo. I also agree with you though. At this point, I don't see Utah really gaining much by joining the Pac 10, especially if the Big 12 dissolves which it looks like its going to. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Utah is not looking at the whole picture and the long term future. I'm sure glad they aren't my investment banker. A lot of history may be leaving with them, but for now, they have damaged their reputation with me.
