USU-WYO traveling trophy idea.

For those of you on the gowyogo board or mwcboard who were discussing the potential traveling trophy idea, I talked to a friend of mine who is on the UW student senate and floated the idea to him. The same way that it was written on that mwcboard.
He said he will talk to the people above him about it.
Someone at gowyogo said they emailed the idea to Tom Burman.
I really hope this gets going, and within the next 4.5 months and there is a trophy, and both football teams and fanbases and universities know about this and it is a go.
Only time will tell.
I like the idea of the Jim Bridger rifle.

If Boise and Fresno can have some ridiculous trophy that Fresno's never won, Wyoming and Utah State can get something started.

The trophy idea is the start, but what's the trophy going to be? Any ties between the two schools? Wyoming and Utah as states don't have much in common....what does Bridger have to do with Utah?

Oh okay.....I knew about his legend in Wyoming, but had no idea his likeness is used a lot for Logan businesses. Thieves.

Actually Brigham Young put a bounty on Jim Bridger's head and also bribed the indians to kill him. It almost led to a conflict between the US Army and Brigham Young's army. We all know how much influence Brigham Young has in Logan, UT.

Good move. I think the best way to get this going is to get students from both schools involved.

I'd rather see a trophy between us and Air Force than I would between us and Utah State. I know that we have a lot of history with the Aggies, but I feel like the rivalry with the zoomies means a lot more to a lot more people.

Being from the west side of the state, the AFA "rivalry" is not a rivalry, it is just the game against AFA. We need a game that people from Evanston can go to without driving 300 miles across the state.
When I was younger, my dad would take me to Wyo games but it got hard, having the game in SLC or the few that were in Logan (never went to Provo, because Fuck Provo) was great for us because it was so much closer.

I know that my grandparents are already planning on the USU game after Turkey Day in Logan this season, and they haven't made a trip to Laradise for a few season now, just because Logan is so much closer.

Establishing a real RIVALRY with USU is going to good for the program, and the Trophy will just be some fuel for the fire.

This has been a topic on the USU board too. Most everyone likes the idea. Many prefer something along the lines of Jim Bridger.
What I prefer is for the loser claim Provo for the year. As was mentioned Fuck Provo!

Having a true rivalry with a military academy is not easy......too much politically correct respect us due for Air Force every game, even though they are the cheap shot fuckers of the MWC. There are blocking rules not put in place to enable their pathetic system. Hard to have a rivalry with them when they are catered to by everyone. Rivalries only work if both teams are allowed to fling poo.....

Hey! USU fan here. First time on the board.

First, it's great to be playing Wyoming regularly again! My dad was a USU alum from back in the 40s. He always talked about how the USU-Wyoming games from back in the late 50s and early 60s were HUGE, best football anywhere. Resuming our rivalries with Wyoming and CSU is absolutely the best thing about joining the MWC.

Second, I really like the idea of a traveling trophy. Of all the suggestions, I think the rifle is the best. We could get a nice reproduction half stock .40 cal percussion cap Hawken rifle, and have a good gunsmith add the appropriate details to make it a really good replica of Bridger's rifle from the museum in Pinedale. I envision a representative of the school currently holding the trophy firing it at mid-field just before the opening kickoff. I really hope we can give this thing legs! If you'll push your AD, we'll push ours, and let's get this thing done!
