USU Game Thread

So basically like last year I had the Air Force game to watch all off season when I wanted to see some highlights and this year I have the Fresno State game to watch in the off season. Sure hope next year starts a moderately descent turn around.

At least give me 2-3 games to rotate through the off season one game gets pretty boring.

Don't worry, man. I think it will. The seeds have been planted....

Well as this football board slowly dies these next two weeks I hope we all have great stuff to talk about with the basketball teams!

The best part of the basketball board is that half the people from the football board don't make the migration. :)

No, but a loss is a loss.

And we will likely end up 5-7. Same shit different season.
I've seen signs the past two 1/4 games that are encouraging. The Pokes flat out shit the bed tonight with untimely penalties and turnovers. Clean that up and this team is learning to play how Bohl wants them to.

Are you saying that you'll be on during bball season? Damn

I don't know...I saw a lot of good tonight. The penalties single handily boned us. The turnovers boned us. But I saw awesome things from Hill. We need OL to keep up with our RBs in the next few years.

I can't beleive I'm not more negative. I thought they played their butts off tonight.

I... actually agree. Outside of the first half, this wasn't half bad. Sure, I would've liked less penalties and Kirk actually looking for more than the one receiver he always keyed in on, but otherwise? Solid.

The offense went from dominating Fresno, putting up historic numbers....to scoring 3 points at home despite having excellent field position all night.

The defense played well, but USU was clearly handicapped with that true freshman QB. They aren't opening the play book for him at all. That luxury, one Wyoming has enjoyed back-to-back weeks...will not exist going forward. There were some positives tonight....Brian Hill is a name to remember in the MW going forward.....but there were a lot of negatives tonight too.

Namely numerous stupid penalties in the red zone.

Not true at all. Transition year. Not even close to the same. Not to mention most on here were predicting 2-3 wins. This team has shown fight, through injuries and everything else the seasons threw at them. Bad game. Oh well. Your fresh RB just busted out 100+ on a top 10'rushing D. A lot of experience is being played by younger Guys right now too

I know it's a transition year Kansas, and I know we don't have a QB, but even DC won us a bowl game in a transition year in a much harder MWC (played TCU, BYU, and Utah), plus won the Bronze Boot.

But, with that said, I think we can beat Boise. 2 weeks to prepare. I think Bohl gets it done. He doesn't seem to be scared of the big boys like DC was. He just realizes we need a win, I think we pull it out. Hopefully he just doesn't prove to be Glenn in the sense he beats the big team then loses to New Mexico lol.

The last time Bohl had two weeks to prepare, he lost to Hawaii. UH hasn't performed that well since. Bye weeks can often do nothing but make a team rusty.

Gentry drop, and Colby picks really hurt. We actually had a legit chance in this thing, and couldn't bring home the bacon. Disappointed in Vigen's play calling in the red zone. I think we run uneven line, motion and counter to Hill and let him use his skills to score. Colby in shotgun also would have offered him a little more time to throw the rock on a fade to Mulhardt. Granted, Nattson alone beat us, and other than that the D played its ass off. Discouraged more by our ability to actually win this game than our attitude on the field. These kids are playing hard, and that I'm proud of.

If you want to put this game on somebody,'despite his two picks, it wasn't Kirk. He threw those at pretty much desperation time. Our OL as a whole did well tonight. Individually? Number 72 cost us two drives on his own! 1st ant goal at the six yard line? No. 1st and 10 at the 25 due to his inability to control himself. There's seven points gone (would've had 10). Hill a screen pass for 35 yards? No, 72 holds his man even though he's supposed to pull. How you even do that I haven't the slightest clue! There goes at least three points (13). Gentry, offensive pass interference! There goes at least three more points! (16). Gentry can't catch and cradle a perfectly thrown ball in the end zone! There's seven more points (23). And there's game, set and match.
This game was ugly due to penalties. The score doesn't indicate how close this actually was. WYO was within striking distance all game. And I counted 6 straight offensive possessions with a penalty which ultimately stopped the drives! That's what won USU the game. Had we been more disciplined this game was ours for the taking. But it's done and over with now. Time to move on. Learn, grow, younger guys continue to get reps and impress us against Boise. Let's take it to those Donkeys for once!
