Updated Rivals Ratings!!!

The Road

Well-known member
Now up to 5 3 star recruits! 19 total commits. Riley and Ogobonna upgraded.

Looks like a very impressive class.

Also, 7 of our two star recruits are coming in with a 5.4 ranking. A 5.5 is a 3 star, which suggests we have about 12 3 star guys and guys who are soo far off the radar they won't get any stars (that big, fast linebacker from Germany).

Our lowest ranked rivals recruits is CJ Morgan, who is our 4 highest ranked ESPN recruit.

Given DC's first year, this class should be solid.

This is seeming to be one of our best classes in recent memory, but the league is only getting better as well, so we need to keep up the hard work. I really like that we are getting players from all around the country and not just Colorado. The kids we did get from Colorado however look to be great players. Hopefully we can get a couple more marquee commits before signing day. Ian did a great job of updating the list on Rivals. I completely agree with Jimmy Dimes with the 5.4 rating, if they were going to a school such as BYU they would be ranked higher, but that isthe nature of the beast if they are going to WYO they get docked a couple of points. Oh well, Go Pokes! Give em hell!

Is is bad that I'm almost more excited about our new WR coach than I am about the recruits?
I do like the talent of a lot of our new recruits, but I have a feeling Derek Sage could turn a pile of poop into a decent receiver, so with these guys, we should be able to get a couple of receivers with career numbers approaching the all-time Wyoming leaders!

And with a couple of experienced WRs from Snow, I think the Offense is going to look a lot better next year.

Oh, and Kakolango (however you spell his name) is already in town and the German player is supposed to be visiting within the week or so.

As long as we can keep ACS from running for his life on every passing play, the offense will improve significantly. Having WRs that can get open and catch the ball will be a nice perk too.

typically we get guys with no stars, one star and if we were lucky 2 stars now were gettin 3 stars and 2 stars nothing less great stuff

I hope it will be a good class, but it is ranked 6th in the MWC and 82nd overall - not exactly where we want to be. While it looks good, I was hoping for a little better...maybe the last 6 spots bring it up a bit. Don't get me wrong, I think DC can win with these kids & I think DC is keeping to his word about only recruiting kids he thinks will help compete for a MWC championship...I just wish that they were ranked a little higher by Rivals.

Can't wait to see how it all pans out on Signing Day.

I don't care where it is ranked. I care if they fill needs and I care if the recruits can play. Rankings? Yeah, Dax Crum was the top rated JUCO QB in country and so was Benjamin. What did that matter when it came time to play the game? Don't be duped into thinking any fricking ranking means a thing. What matters is how they approach the game on the field and how they develop.

Those are my feelings exactly. Those rankings vary sooo much depending on where the recruits decide to go. They are mainly for the fans to brag about to other fans. They are about as interesting to me as a pre-season poll - which is nothing more than a popularity poll.

Look what DC did last year in a short period of time. He and his staff know how to evaluate player and know what type of player they are looking for.

If you look at the different recruiting sites, there isn't much consistency in the rankings. One service lists the RB from Canada as our #1 recruit anther has Sonny P from OK. And so much of the ranking is affected by who is recruiting this kid, where they commit, etc. Very subjective.

while i agree that rankings arent more important than actually winning, and that the rankings are pretty subjective...being ranked sixth in our conf is not a step in the right direction. we shouldnt be satisfied with having low ranked recruiting classes...we shouldnt strive to have to overcome the rest of the league having higher ranked players. why are you satisfied with a 6th-rivals or 7th-scout ranking?

4th in conference and 60th overall i think is both realistic and a step forward. i have followed the recruiting rankings long enough to know that they arent perfect but there is a reason BYU TCU and Utah have crushed us the last couple yrs.

not caring about rankings seems equivalent to not wanting to recruit the number 1 player because rankings are irrelevant.

UTAH won a BCS bowl with classes consistently 3rd in conf and 60th overall...so i know 60 can really turn into number 2, but ive also seen us ranked around 82 for years...really think we should seek improvement in all areas recruiting, coaching, development, fan impact, no one thing alone will get UW football to were i feel it should be so yes i expect progressively better recruits and higher rankings, cant understand those who dont.

right, high ranked teams like Florida and Alabama have horrible players, glad we don't have those guys! sarcasm.

Of course it matters how well your recruits are ranked, it's just like with the NFL draft. A sub 200 lb runningback who runs a 4.6 40 is not likely to be a super star, neither is a slow cornerback who is 5'9 or shorter.
The thing is that there are a lot more variables in the equation than just athleticism, though... there's team chemistry, smarts, coaching, motivation, and so on. Thus a less talented team can beat a very talented team on any given Saturday.

Arguing that we shouldn't care about recruiting rankings makes no sense at all. Of course we should try and get the best athletes we can - as long as they'll fit into our system. Let's face it, though, Laramie's not the most wonderful town in the world, no matter how much that might rub some people the wrong way. It's not for everyone... as a matter of fact, it's probably not for most. This gives us a huge disadvantage when it comes to recruiting - but just like Air Force, we have to deal with it. We're proud to be Cowboy Tough. We play a little bit harder than everybody else. We are a little bit more motivated.

CSU got a very nice recruiting class - but I'll argue that they don't have coaching quite as good as ours, and the one problem with nicer towns to live in - there are also more distractions for your players. Just look at all the CU players who have managed to get in all kinds of trouble :)

Yeah right, Rankings of recruits, who the guys ranking rarely have ever seen play in person, is really important. Hetrick was top ranked JUCO QB in country and .... Crum was top ranked JUCO QB in country and ... Benjamin was top ranked JUCO QB in country and .... They really had an impact.
Rankings are so subjective.
They don't mean a thing other than chest thumping.
What means something is how the players adapt, develop and play.

You keep bringing up Juco QBs, well they were all 3 stars (which is about what every JUCO player is ranked - so not that great anyway) who cares about Juco QBs? I'm talking about the class as a whole, which is made up of mostly HS players.

We obviously are going to disagree...I just would rather adapt & develop a 5 star player than a 2 star player but it sounds like you don't care either way.

I just can't imagine DC turning down the kids going to USC and Texas because he preferred all of our commitments over them..the rankings do mean something, not everything, but something.
