It is always nice to see us get a good win. This was a good win.

I don't remember last years game that well, other than Alvester Alexander had some ridiculous run play to start the game and scored a touch down. Did Bobby Hauck get ahead and run a series of trick plays last year? (just wondering as it was odd we ran two trick plays in a row, TD and two point conversion).

Our defense scares me. They were able to stop UNLV, but it is UNLV.

Why were we so insistent on the run at the end of the game? UNLV was stopping us and we just kept on running the ball. I just don't understand the run/run/run/punt mentality at the end.

Our WR's need to learn how to catch the ball. Way too many drops.
 
currently watchin the game, (dvr'd it during work). liked the kickoffs in the 2nd half, into the endzone. defense much better job in first quarter and 2nd half. and BJ Sumter... dude is huge!! and has a good bull rush lol
 
UNM has shown they can't win. We should be able to win that game like we did against UNLV, maybe a little better.
CSU has been lackluster on offense all season, even against FCS. I think we win it, but it is the Border War.

Air Force is not what it was on defense last year at all, though their offense is pretty good overall. Another close game with Air Force.
SDSU has a hell of a RB in Hillman, whom we stuffed last year. Plus, they don't have their stud WRs who bailed Lindley out quite a bit. Their defense is weak against the power run, and usually doesn't step up until the second half. And the last 2 games have been decided by a total of 13 points. Could be another shootout.
TCU has a hell of an offense that is slow to start, but once it gets going, not much can stop it. Their defense though, has shown to be vulnerable against pass heavy teams (Baylor and SMU). Could be a shootout, but I don't think Smith is quite up for a game like that.
BSU, outside their kicking game, is a freakin' juggernaut. We'd need a miracle just to keep it respectable.

For once I was impressed with Marty English. He actually put a good defensive scheme together ala 4-2-5. I know it was only UNLV but I think we should stick with 4-2-5. Thoughts?

It did work overall, but I still have reservations about the defense. Blair Burns is definitly good, and I have been saying all season that Knapton and Biezuns are excellent DEs. I guess we'll know more against SDSU.

It did work, but why would you use a 4-2-5 defense for a team that doesn't pass very much and whose offense is pretty much only the run game. I guess he didn't have much confidence in the front four or the linebackers.

Hillman played injured last year, and that was probably the main reason we shut him down. He's not injured now, though, to my knowledge... I think he'll gash us for 200 unless we stack the box.

Stack the box, and have everyone play their assignments (be it stopping the run or in coverage), we may be able to come away with a win. Lindley has not been very good this year without his star WRs and has barely averaged over 100yds passing in most games this year. However, still need to keep the WRs covered. The real threat though, is Hillman. However, our LBs seem to be faster and more agile than most (an advantage of having smaller LBs I guess), so our LBs may be able to stuff him enough.

And SDSU's defense has not really been too much of a problem for us the last couple of years, which is surprsing. Last year we put up 38 points on them (our second highest last year) and 30 the year before.
 
I am sorry guys....i really am...I know the Utah State game is behind us and I told myself I would never think about it again. But my mind keeps going back to that game when I think about Hillman. How in the world are we going to stop that guy. I DO think our defense made vast improvements this weekend. I would just like to see our guys in the right position...just relatively close to him so they have a chance to bring him down.

The Utah State game isn't the game that defines us. We played arguably our worst game in the last 15 years and Utah State played lights out. If that was the case, UNLV would have shoved it down our throats and USU wouldn't be 2-4.

Hillman is a good runner, but we shut him down last year. I don't expect that this year, but SDSU doesn't have the passing game they had last year either. I think it will be a close, hard fought victory for the Pokes.
