Two more Commits: RB and DT

The Road

The RB is impressive. Looks like a true play maker. Glad they grabbed the JUCO DT to help the line this year.

I'm not going to lie - the highlight reel of Evans is impressive. The kid's got some moves that you normally don't see from high school players... I wonder what made him go for Wyoming over Gophers? There's going to be a lot of competition at the HB spot, and even if he doesn't get to start there, he looks like the kind of guy you want for kick returns, change of pace, reverses, and maybe just lining up at WR. I don't know how many missed tackles I saw in that highlight video, but either he's extremely slippery, or high school kids in Minnesota never get any tackling practice. He looks like he has a second gear to get into as well... a couple of times it looked like somebody had the angle, and then all of a sudden he just takes off and leaves everybody behind.
Check out what happens at the 3:42 mark... after a ten yard gain he gets hit, sumersaults up in the air but somehow lands on his feet and is able to avoid falling by using his free hand, then runs for another 25 yards before being taken down. Talk about second effort!

As for Taufa'asau, I really wish he'd be able to enroll in the spring rather than the fall, but hopefully he'll still get plenty of practice in the summer as he's graduating in May, at least. I love the attitude of the kid, though: “I hope to make it to the pros but if not then I’ll get my degree, come back, work and take care of my family,” he told Samoa News.
For local kids who seek to play college ball, Kurt says: “like my parents told me ‘to succeed in life, listen to them (parents), put God first in everything that you do because without God u can’t accomplish anything. Also, aua le fa’avaivai (don’t give up).”

Sounds like he's already Cowboy Tough! I think he'll fit right in with the rest of the good guys :) Here's to 10+ sacks his first year as a Poke!

I'm usually not that impressed by HS highlight reels, but that RB looks pretty special. Hard for me to believe he is only a 2 star recruit. He looks like he has excellent vision, balance, and breakaway speed. He looks like a playmaker and hopefully his skills will translate to the next level.

I completely agree. Also, I love all the examples when he realizes that there's no way he'll slip a tackle, so he lowers the shoulder and smashes into the defender and gets another 4-5 yards before going down instead of just stepping out of bounds or trying to continue and getting nothing more.

I also saw a highlight video of the German LB... he looks like he's got pretty good vision too. Obviously it's difficult to compare competitiveness between a German league and American high school, but I think he's probably a bit better than he's given credit for. He does run funny, though :P

I think we are filling the holes great, I think we are at 21-22 scholly's, so with only a few left I wouldn't be surprised to see a qb, a te, and a strong leg. This class is better than lasts, hopefully we can keep building on recruiting classes. Does anybody know about any walkons?

Go Pokes!

I have not seen highlights of the German LB. But having lived in Germany, I can say they have turned out a couple of players of the years. A guy I knew over there had one of his best friends become an all-ACC freshman defensive end at NC State, I think he was a senior this year. Name was Markus Kuhn if you want to look him up.

I have attended some of that leagues games in Germany and would say the level of competition is probably about D-II or so. I would be hesitant about picking up skill position players from over there, but there are some decent lineman, LB, TE type prospects. I hope this guy works out well.

Any news about David Angilau - DT out of San Francisco CC? Did he get an offer?
I think he visits next weekend. Don't know if he's been offered, but we could use another JC DT/DE IMO.

I don't think you can ever have too many DTs, espcecially with so many graduating/leaving.

Anyone know if the team is going to 4-3? I've heard posts stating that, but nothing official.

Not on topic, but I didn't want to start a new topic. One of CSU's big QB recruits, Tyler Shreve, committed to Utah over the weekend. They still have another highly rated QB coming in, but their class certainly took a hit.

Glad to have signed them both. A team can never have enough DT's. Evans is an impressive RB. What worries me is that he used to an I-formation 1 call play system; A read play off tackle FB lead. How well does that fit into our spread? Some of those toss plays he would get killed in D1. However, I could tell he had that extra "sense" a good RB needs because he could feel when a certain block would break down before it happened and adjusted accordingly. When he turns on those after burners, wow what a speedster. That's maybe where can fit into our system if we can get him in some open space. As a returner he could be deadly.

Finally watched the video - WOW. I am as excited about these 2 recruits as any. I can't wait to see what next year's team can do, exciting stuff.
