Let me get this straight, you'll defend the likes of Tom Burman until the end of WYO athletics. You'll put out every ounce of energy defending the AD's every move, but you'll throw a walk-on college athlete under the bus?

Damn man, that says it all right there.

Burman isn't 1-7. :coffee:

By almost every measurable that can be applied to the AD, things have gotten worse under Burman. Luckily Shyatt wanted to come back and I'll tentatively give Burman credit for the Bohl hire (tentatively because technically we still are not a good football team). In every other way, the MWC has weakened and we've slipped relative to our peers.

Yet, you defend a failing administration over and over with excuse after excuse and then throw a walk-on under the bus.

Like I said, damn man, that says it all right there.

Why you worried about my opinion of the admin? Your opinion is fair - but we have different visions on success.

I guess my point is, there are numerous villains in the demise of WYO athletics that played their hand long before any of these kids stepped on the field. These kids are in a tough spot and doing their best; I respect that. I blame others for creating the tough spot.

We should count our blessings, at least we have a kicker:

I wish we'd do that. I mean it would be bad to get into Bailey's head like that, and he obviously isn't very confident right now anyway, but I'd bet we could find a better kicker on campus.

 You know, though, I really hope they find a kid that can do a reasonable job. If they do, it makes a cool story. It would actually be one of the few things to remind us that there is still a little college in college football.

Looks like 'ol Bohly got "Aaron Young'ed" again?

Five kickers on the roster, and not one of them can hit prexy's pasture from the Cheney plaza.

97 Tristan Bailey Kicker FR HS 6-1 190 Colorado Springs, Colo. (Rampart)
37 Alex Langer Kicker JR JC 5-11 195 Des Moines, Iowa (Iowa Western CC, Iowa)
27 Patrick Nasiatka Kicker FR HS 6-2 180 Louisville, Colo (Monarch)
6 Rayan Refae Kicker FR HS 5-11 180 Orlando, Fla. (Windermere Prep)
39 Justin Martin Kicker/punter RS JR 1L 5-10 187 Oakdale, Calif. (Oakdale)

I still don't understand not putting Ethan there. But I guess not many punters double as place kickers anywhere

Wow, nothing like blaiming the unpaid intern rather than management for the faults of a company.

OK, so we will blame Craig for throwing a kid out there who couldn't hit the AA with a ball. That's fair, as that is a recruiting oversight. But hey.. 1-7 is 1-7. It's not Craig's leg that's pushing them left and right. As a businessman, you are cutting ties with unpaid intern who is hindering your business, no?

So to carry your analogy to its logical end, would you be the guy who goes into the break room, and puts up a sheet of paper on the bulletin board that says "Johnny is the worst intern this company has ever had...Discuss!".

"Show class, have pride, and display character. If you do, winning takes care of itself."

Good question...if Cornpoke would pick up this thread, I think he would know better than most of us here. In fact, I think he commented on this before, if I remember correctly. Stating something regarding motion of the leg or something.

I am no kicker, so I couldn't tell you what he's physically doing wrong. I also don't know the kid so I don't want to make assumptions. However, looking at his Twitter account, he seems to care about his girlfriend. A LOT. I get it. Kid is in love. He never mentions football, just his girlfriend. My theory is that his mind is focused elsewhere.

I probably wouldn't post much about football either if I were 1-1,000 on fg attempts.

I usually stay away from these Threads only because I don't want criticize and kicker individually. It's kind of an unwritten rule with kickers. We don't hate on each other.

With that being said, I believe many kickers are very capable in practice but not in a game. Just the same as I can go hit great shots at the golf course driving range but not translate that into my round on the course.

I consider myself a game time kicker and I believe it hurt my career unfortunately. I was not great in tryouts or in camp but put me in a game situation and I always thrived. Only then once I was known as a reliable game situation kicker I didn't have to worry about how I performed in camp or tryouts and actually did better! I was never comfortable in tryouts with other kickers but much more comfortable in the games. At least then I can control my own destiny. Many kickers are the other way around. Great in tryouts and practice but suck in the game.

When I speak with coach's or kickers about how they should be evaluated. I make it clear I do not care to see a practice video of them with their plastic holder just kicking footballs and making every kick. That's absolutely the WORST way to evaluate a kicker and I know many programs that do it that way. I want to see FULL game film. I know most coach's don't want to watch whole games just to evaluate a kicker. Any kicker can put together a highlight film of all their good kicks and long field goals but it doesn't tell the whole story. Stats are also another poor way to evaluate a kicker. A blocked kick, a bad snap, bad hold, all go against a kickers stats. I see many high school kickers that are capable kickers but have a bad snapper, holder, or poor protection.

I don't want to point out players but I always watch the hold on every kick, as a fan I usually never look up in time to see the ball in the air. I'm watching ball placement and the ball striking of the kicker. There have been some very poor holds for Tristan based on where he is marking his spot from. Not only the spot but the ball position as well.

Rather long explanation but that's my :twocents: and until coach's use a better evaluation system for choosing kickers, teams will continue to hit and miss on kickers.

Well yeah...if kickers didn't stay together than no one would like them. :D :D

I kid, I kid...but in all seriousness, is there any grounds to the people questioning why we don't have the punter taking PK duties as well? I know this is fairly rare, don't think anyone in the NFL does it. My instinct would be that the mechanics are different enough that they don't translate, but then there are several punters that WILL do kickoff duty, so that has me a little confused as well.

Any insight from you Cornpoke, someone that actually knows something about kicking mechanics, mindset, etc.
