Trey Washington has left the basketball program

I wish Trey nothing but the best. With that said, losing a guard (point) is the best thing that has happened to this team all year. Too many schollies are being taken for the Point position. We can argue that Trey is better than Lieberman or visa versa, but it really doesn't matter, we need that scholly to go to another SF/PF. I agree we desperately need a bigman, but then we would just be back to too may schollies being used for one position. we need to let either Barns or Dalton walk also. We need another JJ type player (6'7" wing) and one productive big (6'10" bruiser that has some offensive skill). I look at teams like Nevada, SDSU and Fresno...those teams are packed with 6'6" - 6'9" kids that are athletes with weight, why can't we get just one of those types of bodies into Laramie????

Lieberman is teachers pet, i'm thinking, Trey just musta not liked Laramie anymore, sure would like to know the true/real story here, esp after sitting out last year with a redshirt, just don't get it, musta been a personal family thing

This really bums me out. I was having high hopes for Trey next year. I was starting to see flashes. he needed to be aggressive and take the ball to the rim. He had the quicks to get by his defender and make things happen when he got in the paint. He could actually finish sometimes at the rim unlike LIebs or he found the open man. Sure we might not be missing much from him this year but I was expecting big things next year from him. Weird that it happened after playing 22 minutes last game and the entire second half basically.
The only silver lining is this can help with balancing the classes. Get a senior transfer or a Freshman or if we go Juco sign a sophomore. The Junior class next year is a big one and we need to balance it out.

Im hoping everything is alright with Trey and his family. because I can't see him making this decision based on basketball. If he wants to go to another D1 school he will have to sit out his Junior year and only have his senior year to play. So I wish him luck and hope everything is ok with him.

Really? Dalton. He has been playing great. I see him becoming a very solid player for us. His instincts and motor are great to see and his shot is coming around. the only things he needs to do is gain some weight and get a haircut.

Two sides to every story...I am betting nobody here knows the real scoop. Including myself (not saying I do by any means). Like many before him, and many after him, it happens.

Moving on...

Would have preferred it was Lieberman that quit and not Trey. Trey is roughly 1,000x better than Lieberman on defense, but whatever. I just hope JJ gets much more playing time now.

I say this because we have a log jam at the big spot with guys that just aren't MWC difference makers. Dalton is talented enough, but he will never have the body to be the guy we need. We have Dalton and Herndon who are the exact same player....talented but not really a position for them. They are too thin for the post and not quick enough for a wing. We don't need both, so yes, Herndon could have been mentioned instead of Dalton. Either way, we have too many 6'9" 190lbs players. we need 6'9" 225 athletic wing/big type guys.

We just got rid of a log jam at PG, now we need to get rid of the log jam at Big/Wing. we need another true Center type,we only have one true (good) center type (Naughton). This is why I mentioned Barnes and we also need a JJ type (with Treys scholly) and a Cameron Oliver from Nevada type of player (with Dalton or Herndon's scholly), and we need them now.

Dalton's going to be good for us especially if he decides to redshirt. He's improved more than any other player as the season' s gone on.

We have a log jam at PG? With Trey gone, next year we have a Junior PG that everyone seems to think is terrible and will have a freshman. That's pretty thin. Especially since they usually like to have 2 ball handlers on the court together and I don't know anyone else on the team I would trust to handle the ball next year.

I don't consider Dalton and Herndon the same type of player. Maybe they are but I think their game is different. I think they both have great futures with the cowboys. Herndon is on the verge of having adequate size. ANother off season and he should be fine size-wise. I think he can be pushing 220 by next year. No doubt Dalton needs to gain weight but there is no reason to think that he won't. I think his outside game is better than Herndon's as he shot 45%-ish from 3 in JUCO and has started to shoot better lately. He could be a sharpshooter by next year. Herndon is ok outside but he needs to attack the rim more. Bottom line I wouldn't want to be rid of either one of them.

I am not sure where they are gonna go with the scholarship. Another tall athletic wing is always a good thing. But another guard that can handle the ball wouldn't be bad either, if he could be tall and athletic that would be great.

I was thinking this same thing. Dalton will be good

Concur with others that say keep Dalton. While he will probably never be a starter on a good MWC team, if he can develop a little more physically he has good skills, instincts, and he plays hard (even a little dirty, which I approve of). He would be a solid rotation player.

Dalton is great. Most hustle of any guy on the team. Guy just flying around, always in the right place at the right time. Also, he is pretty good from foul line.

Sad to see Trey go and really surprised after the redshirt. I thought he'd really improves his game in the coming years but who knows what went down. He never really got to hit his stride with UW which sucks. Best of luck to him though with whatever he does. No idea about anything going on so that's that.

I think we will need another guard that can handle the rock now. Maybe Conway is showing something big in practice?????? We have 2 free scholarships open now right? We most definitely need one more rock solid big. Our next big just needs to be muscular with some ups more then anything, one who can D up, snag boards, get dunks, and an occasional block. I think we need another 1/2 guard with handles. We have enough swing guys for now with JJ, Mcman, and throw in Gorski there too if needed. This offseason got a lot more interesting didn't it?

Agreed totally. No way I want Dalton gone! As of right now he's arguably our best big and only a soph. I really don't want anyone leaving this team unless they have to. I like our players and I think they can get it done with time. Yes a couple power recruits wouldn't hurt but I'm really happy we have Conway/Moemeka lingering. I'm all for the most cohesive team we can build. Getting guys together that work for each other is a big deal in my book and I appreciate it more then massive egos.

Just one. This one. We Signed Mueller and have Adams graduating. Then we have this one.
So we over signed with Irshad Hunte? Hmmmm hard to say what's going on here. If we only have one scholly then its pretty much on all the development of Conway or Moemeka. Who's progressing more? The one that isn't up to snuff the most is the position I'd lean towards to back up more. My gut and heart say go get a SOLID BIG, but that isn't always where the best moves lie. Even though going with gut and heart often leads to the most fun

We always oversign by one because the staff knows there will be attrition. That's the way basketball works these days. It has worked itself out every year. This year we still need that one though. I don't know where we go either. I trust the staff to find the right guy.
