What about taking a look at this kid? Transferring from Cal- from Highlands Ranch, CO.....I haven't heard any rumors, just thought I'd throw this one out there.
Uh, no. This kid is not worthy of a D1 scholly. Cal was laughed at by regional coaches when they signed him.

Sellers will be on the roster, will he be paying his own way? thats the question
I can all but guarantee that they don't pull his scholarship. That's a horrible reputation for a coach to have.

Just curious, but aren't athletic scholarships renewed annually? Meaning, they don't have to pull it...it just...goes away.

????

I doubt they will just outright yank Sellers' scholarship. I don't think this staff wants to get a reputation for running guys off, it really hurts recruiting.

Big programs all across the country don't renew scholarships. Even more so in basketball because of the limited roster spots.

We could really upgrade the roster by going out and adding another transfer and a high school kid. Just the business of division 1 sports today.

It would be crappy for Sellers if we pulled the scholly...but if we could pull his just to give muhammad and granberry the schollies that would improve the team a lot instantly.
I guess we might have someone get booted off the team considering our teams track record with the LPD since Shyatt has been back

For being so adamant in wanting to take a player's scholly.

1. Taking a player's scholly and turning around to give it to someone else would be a big red flag for new recuits.
2. Sellers has not broken any team rules. And while not the best big guy on the court, he has tried.
3. He came to UW on a scholly. Not everyone can afford college without it. Take it away, he may not be able to stay in school.

It would be like taking away some kid's academic scholarship, even though he's been keeping his grades all at a B or higher, just to give it to someone else who might get slightly higher grades. It's a dick move and a slap in the face of anyone offered a scholly.

No. It would be like taking away someone's academic schollie when they are getting all d's. thought you could hack it at this level but you can't. No different.

Holy shit...re-read what I said...I said it would suck if we did it.
I never said we should do it. "Being so adamant in wanting to take a player's scholly"...I was never in support of it. All I said is that IF WE DID, and LANDED granberry AND muhammad it would improve the team a lot instantly.
I never said that we should do that... :tickedoff:

Guys we may be looking at:

Anrio Adams 6'-3'' SG transfer from KU was a freshman this year but was a 91 rated recruit on espn. can build off this
Jerron Granberry 6'-5''SG tran. from NFU. He's a one year, temporary fix for the prog.
Mike Orris 6'-3''PG/SG tran. from KSU. was a fresh this year but was a 90 rated recruit on espn. can build off this.
Chris Varidel 6'-2'' SG tran. from FGCU. would have 1 yr eligibility, Career 178-462 (38.5%) 3 pt. 8.7 ppg avg in 3 years.

Maybe we get a solid inside presence:
Kaileb Rodriguez 6'-9'' PF tran from Cal. was rated an 89 on espn. was a fresh, can build off of him. he's also more local from CO
Jon Ekey 6'-7'' PF tran from Ill St. 37% 3pt shooting. avg 6.7 ppg in his career and 76% from Ft line.

Just choices to consider.

Just so you guys know, Shyatt doesn't pull scholarships. Once he gives one to a kid then he won't ever take it away unless it was something to do with getting kicked off of the team for legal trouble. Not sure where any of you guys came up with Shyatt pulling scholarships but he doesn't and won't do that. So no point in talking about it anymore. :thumb:

No coach "pulls" scholarships. What happens is that players are "counseled" out of the program. Basically told they have zero chance of playing, but that the staff will help them find an appropriate school to transfer to.

Not saying Shyatt would do that either, but that's more along the lines of what typically happens.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. I guess I should have clarified my statement. Whether you want to call it "counseling" a player out of the program or "pulling" a scholarship, no matter what you call it Shyatt won't do it. Atleast I have heard him say that on multiple occasions before. He sticks with the kids he gives scholarships to unless they get into legal trouble.

I suppose he could change his ways if it came down to keeping his job or not but from hearing him before he doesn't seem the type to change his stance on that. He is pretty loyal which can be a good thing or a bad thing I suppose depending on how you look at it.

Obviously it would be nice to upgrade if we can but I'm not so sure Shyatt will do it based on previous statements from him.

In the end, after Shyatt is all done coaching here it will be a good thing IF he ends up winning MWC titles and getting us into the Big Dance a lot and all that.
We will say "Shyatt was such a good coach the he even dealt with having players like Sellers on scholly."
Or if Shyatt never delivers on the results we want, we will say "Too bad Shyatt was so committed to scrubs like Sellers."
