Tormey in the mix for Idaho head coach

The thing I think is funny is everyone thinks that Tormey is such a terrible DC. If he was such a bad DC he wouldn't have had the number one defense in the nation and won a national championship at Washington. The problem is we don't have very good personnel on that side of the ball, we only have one player in the secondary that can play and we don't have anyone up front to rush the qb on their own. If you give Tormey time to get his players our D will improve, it will take time yes but getting a new DC every single year is not going to solve our problems.

Either the D is improving or, we are playing the easier part of our schedule. I will admit the Run D has gone from 'fall down and let them run to the endzone' to...'bend and sometimes break but, mostly don't break, except for a few times'.

I honestly don't know who is to blame for it but, it's not like we didn't see this coming from last year.

I'm just hoping for a win today. The Rebs have been all over the map and that is kind of scary.

Sometimes they can go toe to toe and smack people in the mouth (like UNM), other times they can't seem to do anything right against teams that usually seem worse then they are (like the sheep).

All comes down to Smith and the long ball. If he continues to hit guys deep, UNLV's rapid inconsistency won't matter.

^This.

Name me defensive coordinator, hand me a bunch of 8 year olds, and then tell me to beat a high school team.

I don't get the job done, fire me, then hire someone else to coach the 8 year olds...repeat..

I personally think it would be great if he left. I know the defensive struggles cannot be pinned solely on him but the inability to find a solution/fix is 100% on him. We have ran the same schemes since play one and have gotten the exact same results. Somewhere along the way a coach has to realize that his schemes arent working, be it because players or because the plays called, and make adjustments. No one on this team knows how to make an adjustment. I personally think think a new coach can't do any worse at this point....

Tormey meeting with Idaho on Monday.

My thoughts on thia.

1- Idaho needs to hire Gesser. He fits the bill there in Idaho
2- DC is encouraging tormey to interview and accept job if it comes. Translation: "Chris, I brought you on cause you're my friend, but you're not cutting it". This is dc's way of getting him out.
3- tormey ain't getting the job.

The point is, is that a coach must evaluate what he has and design around that. Maybe at Washington all the players were talented enough to adapt to his scheme. For example, if a basketball coach whose coaching fame was built around a double post system with two 7 foot athletic centers came to Wyo where his tallest two players were 6'8" and 6'7" forwards he probably wouldn't do well trying to force that offense on the team.

Anyone who Truely wants tormey fired or to quit now is an idiot. Forget all those northwest recruits that he has brought in. Forget the fact our d is improving on the run. Who do we play? Nevada afa unlv nm. Running teams. Keep him for at least 2being seasons so we can get some solid recruits at least.

I'm not saying get rid of him (in fact I said I'll give him 1 more year), but though our rush defense improved, our pass defense has made horrible QBs, even horrible passing QBs, look like Heisman contenders. That is not a good thing, and from what I've seen, not an easy thing to do either.

Isn't Kaligis bringing in a lot of the PNW recruits?

Yes he is.

The thing is some people are better as a coordinator than a coach, Norv Turner ins the NFL is the perfect example. Tormey has proving he can win as a coach but him as a coordinator has never been real successful, I will say it he is a better head coach than he is a D cord so for that reason I hope he gets the Idaho job, I do believe we will be better on D too if he is gone.
