Top 5 Wyoming Athletics Moments of 2025

Every year gives you a handful of Wyoming Athletics moments that stick. Some were wins, some were losses with tough lessons, and a few didn’t even need a final score to leave an impact. What tied them all together was the reaction. These were the moments that drove conversation, emotion, and engagement across WyoNation platforms throughout the year.

Here are the Top 5 Wyoming Athletics Moments of 2025, based on what Cowboy fans talked about, argued about, and rallied around the most.

1. Wyoming Shuts Out CSU and Reclaims the Bronze Boot

You don’t see shutouts in the Border War very often and that’s what made this one special. Wyoming dominated Colorado State from start to finish, walked out with a 28–0 win, and took the Bronze Boot back. No late drama. No sweating it out. Just a straight-up statement in the biggest rivalry game of the year. This one lit up WyoNation channels and will be remembered as the last Border War between the two schools as conference mates.

2. Josh Allen’s Jersey Retirement Brings It Full Circle

Seeing Josh Allen honored in Laramie wasn’t just a feel-good moment, it was a reminder of what Wyoming football can be. The jersey retirement on Senior Day brought the entire story full circle, from raw prospect to NFL superstar. Fans didn’t react because of the accolades, they reacted because Allen is one of ours and a true lifelong Cowboy. Moments like that hit different, and this one clearly did, even though Wyoming lost the game to Nevada that day.

3. A 2025 Football Season That Kept Everyone Talking

This season tested everyone. Coaching mishaps, offensive struggles, and constant questions about where the program was headed, made 2025 one of the most talked-about seasons in recent memory. Every game seemed to fuel the same conversations: what was working, what wasn't and what needed to change. It wasn’t always fun, but it mattered. And that’s why it stayed at the center of the discussion all Fall.

4. Wyoming Basketball Sparks Some Much-Needed Optimism

When hardwood season hit, Wyoming basketball gave fans something to rally around. A strong non-conference record (9-2) brought optimism back into the mix as the Pokes opened up Mountain West Conference play. This team has shown toughness, energy, and most importantly, connection. After a long football season, it was refreshing to have a squad that felt like it was building toward something.

5. Wrestling Hosts No. 1 Penn State in Front of a Record Crowd

Not every big moment ends in a win, but it still can be impactful. Hosting No. 1 Penn State in Laramie was one of those times. A record crowd, national attention, and a spotlight on Wyoming wrestling made this about more than the result of the duel. Fans showed up, the atmosphere delivered, and the moment reminded everyone that Wyoming wrestling can be on the big stage.

What Comes Next

2025 had its share of highs and frustrations, but it also set the tone for what fans expect moving forward. The conversations aren’t slowing down, and neither is the passion around Wyoming Athletics. If nothing else, this year proved one thing: Cowboy fans still care deeply, and that’s something that can't be taken for granted.
