Interesting read. Especially the tweet indicating interested teams....would love to see him spend a couple seasons behind Peyton Manning

Interesting read.

I have never heard of the writer (Sander Philipse) and see he is nothing more than some dude with a blog who thinks he knows it all. One of his statements about Smith - "He put up solid but not dominant statistics at Wyoming, but then college statistics really don't mean much." I know I'm a homer, but Smith broke a ton of records and did it in 3 years behind an O line that was suspect at best. Philipse goes on to say "I don't see anything special out of him." I'm not sure what video he's watched, but after watching Brett for 3 years I'd have to say he's pretty damned special.

I think Brett turned a lot of heads today, and definitely increased his stock with his performance. Playing behind Manning in Denver would be a great fit for him and the Broncos. No matter where he ends up, the kid is going to be a success. :twocents:

If he went to Denver, it would be MUCH easier for me to follow him. And he would also be able to learn from Peyton Manning, not to mention all his friends from college would only be a few hours away too! But whatever team he goes to, I will always root him on!

I was reading a lot about that, Apparently Tedford didn't want to coach at Wyoming but was very interested in Brett Smith and now that he is in Tampa seems as that interest is even higher now.

I hope the Broncos pick him up. That ASU QB behind Manning doesn't impress me. I'd much rather have Smith and his potential. Plus, you know that if Elway remains in charge of football operations, he'll do what it takes to win.

Don't forget the Marcus Arroyo connection. Did a stint with Tedford, helped bring Brett to WYO, and is now QB coach at Tampa Bay.

Makes me think Tampa Bay is where he will end up because they know him best.

I thought that Marcus was gone well before the end of the year 2010, like right after the season ended in November? And Brandon was in place as a factor?

Yet, I also remember Brett was an early enrolling FR in the Spring 2011.

Another article on Brett's pro day performance:

He was still around when Brett came in. I don't remember now, when he left. However, here is a link to an article with him discussing the young QBs--including Smith.

Arroyo didn't stay much past that though.

Yeah, after McPeachy said that, I couldn't remember exactly when he left. I thought I remembered him being key to getting Brett, but then leaving shortly after. I actually had to do a quick search for that article because I wasn't that confident in my memory.

I read through some of those comments about Brett on that page, and overall pretty positive.
Except for one guy...He said he doesn't like Brett because he doesn't audible and take control of the game...
Dude...That's not his fault. That's 100% on DC.

But oh well. I shouldn't expect Tampa fans to know everything about Brett Smith and the Wyo Cowboys.

he won't start at least not right away, but lord give the kid an OLine so we truly can see his true abilities...lol

I was also thinking that the Marcus departure was prior to the ACS departure, but I have drank that part of my memory away for good. Anyone? I remember there being some correlation.

I could have sworn Arroyo left and then ACS did his vanishing act, but according to that article, I'm wrong on the order.

My also fuzzy recollection was ACS left December. Brett had signed (or verbaled; in December) by then but I don't remember if he was on campus for Spring ball; retracted SJSU commit in part because of open competition? Arroyo left January 2011.

My recollection was Arroyo helped recruit him but never coached him?

Yeah, that article is throwing me off too. I thought he signed with Cal in January of that year? I'm all confused

Marcus Arroyo coached in some form at San Jose State - 2005 - January 2009 (Brett was a sophomore in HS)
Arroyo hired by Wyoming - January 2009
Brett Smith initially committed to San Jose State - July 2010 (just prior to his senior yr in HS)
He withdrew his commitment in August 2010.
Smith committed to the University of Wyoming December 13, 2010.
He enrolled January 2011
Austyn Carta Samuels transfers to Vanderbilt - Jan 11, 2011
Marcus Arroyo hired by Cal - February 2011

Thanks, I needed that. I can only remember things when I drink--maybe I only think I remember things :D

I'm pretty sure that Arroyo left the day after signing day. I hope Brett ends up in the NFL with any team, but the Bucs would be my last pick. The kid got shit coaching in college, he doesn't need to walk into shittier coaching in the NFL. Then again, it won't be for long, as Arroyo usually gets shoved out soon after arriving anywhere. Good at getting jobs, too incompetent to do them. Not unlike Christensen, good at getting good players, shit at coaching them...
