Title IX killed UW football and basketball

Title IX hit every university in the country. Why did it hurt UW more than any other? Maybe it's because of our low athletic budget. We couldn't afford to keep the programs we dropped in addition to the new mandated women's programs to bring UW into compliance with Title IX.

I think I read where Montana has to add women's softball to be in compliance w/ Title IX. It probably won't hurt the football budget much.

I believe baseball was directly killed because of title IX. I think that's when they added girls soccer. I'm just saying that adding opportunities for girls has hindered the big two for UW.

there are more girls sports at UW vs guys
But the same number of mens and womens scholarships, which is at the heart of Title IX gender equity.

Actually, if I recall the Title IX rules correctly, the sports (and thus scholarships) are to follow the demographics of the university's enrollment. Wyoming is 52.4% female, meaning there needs to be more sports opportunities for women, then the men. This would be why there are more women's teams and not as many men's teams.

Spin's correct. Athletic scholarships have to follow university demographics.. so there will be a few more scholarships for W than M.

IMO, football should not be "counted" in the Title IX equation. It should be the exception.

Then let's level things out...
