Hopefully with his comment today regarding needing to open up the playbook or get a bigger playbook at the press conference we will see more creativity in mixing up plays.
I wouldn't hold my breath that he'll change the offense to an air raid style or something similar. No chance of that. Playcalling can be switched within the system, but the overall system and philosophy will stay the same.
No one is calling for a radical switch to an "air raid" or triple option offense. It's about being logical and realizing anyone with a pulse can defend against a predictable offense. Instead of runs on first and second downs, mix it up. Do some dinking and doinking with some short passes. Give your QB a feel for the passing game. Throw in some "trickeration" or razzle-dazzle every so often. Run a fullback option. Whatever it is, just try to make the opponent's defense guess instead of doing what they expect. It's pretty fundamental to how the game is supposed to be called...joshvanklomp said:seattlecowboy said:I agree the defense has gotten better but his "conviction" that the ground and pound will work at Wyoming is off in my opinion. TVW and receivers are mid-level fcs talent at the moment. They might get better, but it is what it is for now.
We'll have to agree to disagree. EVERY scouting report on Josh said the same thing; we have suspect play calling AND devoid of talent on offense. Literally every report on Josh mentioned how bad the talent is at WYO. It didn't get better since last year.
Everyone said we had no talent on defense either 2 years ago. Then we change coordinators and we jump from a defense ranked around 100 to a top 25 defense with the same players. No talent? More like bad coaching that got changed.
Give us a coach that can maximize the potential in the offensive players and call a more creative game plan and I bet we at least see some jump from our 125 ranked offense to something better. Bare in mind this offensive coach with 6 NFL players a couple years ago only had the offense ranked 48th that year, barely in the top 50 in the nation but with half the starters going to the NFL

I'll agree that this offensive staff should be on notice...I just can't get on board with statements that this all comes down to playcalling. You couldn't convince me that this offense is talented...the comments about the Defense two years ago forget the fact that the defense then WASN'T TALENTED. That defense was crazy young/small. Yes a lot of them would eventually be good but they were not good then. Hazelton did a great job. Hopefully this offensive group can make similar strides (I'm not convinced that this staff can make that happen though). ...The furor around playcalling is getting old.

Who is responsible for recruiting, teaching, and developing the offense? I agree the playcalling was better today but it all comes down to the offensive staff is failing and has been failing for years
