Time to face the facts

I agree. What needs to happen? Cutout the cancer before it does more damage

Burman's MO? Support the coach, hope it blows over, if it doesnt and it begins to make Burman look bad--take action

Burman gave this guy $1.2 million and 5 years. He gave Schroyer the keys to the cookie jar too. What do the fans in Wyoming get in return? The opportunity to support the most embarrassing programs in the country.

We need to get rid of Burman and DC-Burman as soon as possible, and bring in someone who will return UW to national relevance!!! :tickedoff:
Guy, nobody would seriously consider Schroyer to have been a well-paid coach.

The buyout all depends on the termination clauses correct? If UW can prove cause for termination, then the buyout would probably be nill. If the termination is for convienence then UW would be faced with paying the full buyout.

Either way can attendance continue to be at 17k and have the football program still make money. Since the revenue sports fund the rest of the athletics budget, it would seem to me that the poor performance of the football team is a detriment to the entire athletics department

I don't think people really even show up for winning teams. Averaged 19K almost 20K in 1996 for a great team. Those results are skewed because somehow 30K showed up for the AF game.

The issue is winning consistently. People will start to attend for one good year, but 3 or 4 good years and attendance will go way up.

With only 6 home games, half the season is gone before anyone knows if you are really good or not

Exactly. I used to be a season ticket holder, but I'm not going to blow a lot of money, drive four hours and pretty much waste a weekend to watch them get their asses handed to them.

Really? Will it? I'm not being condescending. But in 96 we went 10-2, our avg attend was 19,666, We get Dimel and go 8-5 his first year our avg attend was 19,607 (Only reason this one was so "high" our sellout of 34,000 with CSU). We bring everybody back and go 8-3 the very next year, our avg attend was 17,926 Then we have a good returning squad and go 7-4 guess what or avg attend was 19,480.
Yep, Some of our best teams in recent history and we won year in and year out and guess what? No body showed up.

Good points, I can't argue with them. What the above noted attendance figures tell me is there is buy in to the program. What I mean by that is we fans of Wyoming, show up for the winning seasons, well at least for CSU, BYU etc. But there are too many gaps in the winning years. We can string 2 maybe 3 good years together, but have failed since the 70's to build on success. Making the casual fan base apathetic to the program.

This is a failure of the university as a whole, we either hold on to coaches too long, or run coaches off too fast. I am not sure what the solution is. Maybe bringing in a very young coach and let him grow with the program, but there has to be a commitment to keep his pay within 5% of the national average.

dang, I had it pretty good from 96-2000. prolly the best 4 years stretch in the last 30 years. just enough to torture me for the pain and anguish since i graduated.

1986-91 and a 2nd bachelors in 1996.....now I got lucky with this stretch. Back to back WAC titles in '87 and '88 (both undefeated in league play). Ranked as high as #10 in football. Solid again in '96 minus the WAC Championship game.

In basektball I got to see Fennis and the boys. NIT 2nd place, Sweet 16, a rockin AA, Sports Illustrated, and a ranking as high as #4.

This is what makes it so painful. I've seen the highs and expect us to get back at some point.

Go Pokes!!

88-93 for me during the Roach Tiller years, (one year too late to see Fennis etc), I know we can get it done here, it all comes down to the coaches and if they want to truly be here or not. I like the idea with the Joe Glenn issue but I don't think he'd come back. We need a good young coach that is willing to put in the time, prove himself, get a hell of supporting cast around him, and recruit players that truly want to be here as well, not just able to say they got a scholarship to play (what's called) D1 football. We have pieces on this team but together it truly doesn't make a true team. It's hard for me to understand where we really fell this hard over the years??? Vic was bad but we had pieces on those teams too. If DC doesn't really want to be here then he owes it to the Univ and fans to say so. The call is not going to come anytime soon, unless something miraculous happens at Mizzou where they'll beg him to come back. It's really painful to watch this and if we don't get it done against the sheeeep, I'll have to really reconsider my wanting season tickets next year. I may only go to the Nebraska game and that's it. One game to rally around the rest of this year and see how the rest plays itself out, as those final games are all winable as well. Time will tell, but it's been extremely hard to have been as emotionally invested as I have been this year, especially with the kool aid I read and heard about at the start of the season.
Cmon Pokes, BEEET THE SHEEP!!!!!!
