Time of possesion

It was proven today that when the defense is not on the field the whole game they can step up big in the 2nd half/OT. Today time of possession was pretty equal. Hawaii 30:48 Wyoming 29:12. Just goes to prove DC wrong that time of possession can make a difference in a game. It was equal today and guess what, WYOMING WON!!!

Won by 3 in OT against, before coming into today's game, one of the worst offenses in the country. We allowed over 600 yards and made a really bad QB look like a stud.

Don't get me wrong, a win, at home, on senior night, for the last home game is what the team needed. But it was against a winless team that has (other than against us) a horrible offense.

And our defense got a lucky stop on that 4th down in OT. Much further and it would have been a 1st down. We gave up 600 yards and 56 points to a bad Hawaii offense.

Very true. The defense has gone from piss-poor to an absolute joke. There's not even a semblance, collectively, of skill or competence.

On the flip side, Hawaii's defense has been pretty respectable all season- kept them in every single game, except for this one. We took care of that for them.

I am not saying I was impressed with our D' but my point is we were able to make some stops late and that one in OT would never have happened if TOP was something like in weeks past Wyoming 20 minutes opponent 40 minutes.

What would be interesting is to compare the number of possessions to the time of possession stat over the last few games. Hell, I don't think our defense ended up winded because Hawaii scored pretty quickly and the same probably goes for Wyoming.

You have a good point.
It could have been the even TOP, the 5 minute break before OT, the chance for a bowl game, or just playing for the seniors, but whatever it was, the Pokes D did step up when they REALLY needed to.

They also had a lot more bright spots this game than they have had in a long time.
They had the back to back plays that should have been fumbles, which didn't matter because of the HORRIBLE punt by Hawaii that bounced off one of our players. They had the OT stop. They had several sacks.

Did they still suck for 90%+? Yep. Sure did.
But, there were a handful of good plays, compared to what we have been getting, that is a big positive.

Our D made stops today...not a lot, but some. Only to have our special ed teams or offense turn the ball over and get the D back on the field. All of our turnovers and f'd up kick returns (or what they were supposed to be) were catalysts for TDs. Had we not shit ourselves and make the stupid mistakes we did, the game would not have been close. But we did make those mistakes...and it was a close game, THAT WE WON. Still better than losing. And hopefully put some fire back in Smith's belly.

Yeah no doubt.
Smith had video game stats, his confidence is back.
I'm sure the way Brett sees the USU game is, win and we go to a bowl.
He will be fired up.
He isn't one of the nay-sayers on here saying we have an awful D.
He just wants to win.

And because of Brett Smith, I think Wyo has a CHANCE against Utah State.
