Tick...Tttttick...Tttttick

I have been trying to get my football "fix" by doing some reading online. I found a few interesting Wyoming related stories at "bleacherreport.com". I am becoming more and more excited for the upcoming season! Stories I thought worthy of sharing are :
2010's Best Mid-Major Quarterbacks
Austyn Carta-Samuels, Sophomore | Wyoming Cowboys (Mountain West)
Carta-Samuels threw for 1,953 yards, 10 touchdowns and 5 interceptions last year. He also scrambled for 366 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. He is just a sophomore, and was named the Mountain West freshman of the year last season. He led the Cowboys to a 7-6 record, including their first bowl appearance--and victory--since 2004 with a 35-28 win over Fresno State in the New Mexico Bowl. With the majority of his supporting cast returning, look out for this player in the Mountain West.

Mountain West Out of Conference Schedule; Who Has The Toughest Road?
Wyoming; 3rd Toughest Schedule
The Cowboys broke through in 2009, scraping together a 6-6 regular season and then winning their bowl to end up 7-6 last year. And, with 15 starters returning, hope are up in the high plains for the 2010 season.

The Pokes have two easy wins out of conference…a lower division Southern Utah team and a away at a MAC Toledo. So why third toughest schedule rating in the league?

Because their other two out of conference games are as tough as they come. They play not one but two teams that will be in the top five and challenging for the national title this year.

Wyoming plays a Boise State team that went undefeated, won the Fiesta Bowl and returns a ridiculous 21 starters at home. The Broncos should start fifth or higher in the national polls.

Wyoming also makes a visit to Austin to play the Longhorns of Texas, who should also start the season in the top five.

That’s two tough cookies to munch on.

If, somehow, the Cowboys pull an upset in either of these, they’ll have a season for the ages. But, realist that I am, I’m predicting 2-2 in OOC play.

Still, I think those games will pay dividends, and that Wyoming will be a surprise team in the conference this year, going 6-2 in league play. That will bring them to 8-4, and a decent post season bowl berth.

Wow - 8-4?!? I would love to see that, but I think that might be a little optimistic, I hope I am wrong though

That is the authors opinion, although I do think we have a shot at it. As an improvement over last years season i am hoping for an upset verses Air Force and/or Utah, along with the same conference wins we had last year.

Air force was a close game even though we hadn't yet established a productive offense. I think this year, taking them on at home gives us a slight edge.

I think there will be tremendous emotion and rivalry vs. Utah. At home, homecoming game, high emotions with a chance to avenge a whooping we took in 2008. It would make my year to see Utah depart the MWC with their tails between their legs. I see them going 8-4 this year.

I would be willing to bet that we beat either air force, byu, or utah this year. I know byu might be tough since its in provo, but they lose unga to help out their new qb. (Even if their frosh qb is one of the highest rated recruits in the country, it hurts to lose unga.)

Actually...Utah won't leave until after the 2011 season so....

I agree we beat either UU or AFA and beat the same teams we did last year to end up 7-5 and then 8-5 ;)

I'm not familiar with the details...... does that mean that we will be a conference of 10 next year, or does BSU not join us until the 2012 season?

We'll be a 10-team league in 2011 with Boise State joining.
In 2012, we'll go back to a 9-team league when Utah heads off to the PAC-10 unless we add anybody else.

Nope which means we'll have to go to SLC in 2011!

Utah leaves after this year. 2010 is their last season in the MWC. We won't be in Salt Lake again for a long time.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5298238

After playing one final season in the Mountain West this fall, Utah will join the Pac-10 -- or whatever the expanded league's name will become -- in 2011.

Well...that's news to me. I was under the impression they're in until 2012. CU is not supposed to leave the Big 12 until 2012 so I thought both would go to the PAC-10 at the same time.

I heard that CU is trying to get an exemption about that, as is NU, if I'm not mistaken.

They are trying to move CU's date up, which they probably will.

Regardless though Utah is gone next year, even if the PAC has to wait an extra year for CU, Utah is gone no matter what.

I know the yoots are gone regardless. On the bright side to them leaving, it royally pissed off BYU supporters. LOL

Though, next to the sheep, the yewts are our longest rival, especially in conference.

An easy win? Never heard of such a thing. Especially in a road game. The Pokes better not believe Toledo is an easy win or they will be 1-3 in non-conference play. This dude is whack.

I won't worry much about the USU game, but I have heard that Toledo is pretty good at home, but it is more winnable than the Texas game at least.
