Thursday Scrimmage

My dad went over. He thought the offense…pass game in particular looked much better.
I actually think the pass games will be fairly potent thus giving us a good chance in most games. Having a good passing attack will open up the run more too. I expect better yards per carry, as well

KA is by far the best option we have for an offense this year. Wrote in another post that after re-watching the Boise game from last year, it pissed me off once again that KA was essentially benched for the second half after what he was able to do in the first half. My wife thought she was going to have me committed during that game....

Didn't he have a concussion?

I don’t equate not being medically cleared to return to benching. Scary that Anderson was actually left in the game for a series after the screen pass where he got the concussion though.

As much attention as concussions have gotten in the past decade, we are still not very good at immediately identifying concussions and pulling the player off the field.

My teenage daughter plays competitive soccer and has experienced two concussions in the past 5 years. Both were from kicked balls striking her head at a very high rate of speed. All coaches, as well as all referees, are required to have annual training in identifying concussions. Despite these very clear impacts to her head, no one flagged her for evaluation. In one case, she became dizzy on her feet and had to take a knee to prevent herself from falling over. The referee stopped the game, asked her if she was OK, and allowed play to continue when she said "yes". Our coach also continued to leave her in the game. I had to walk over to the bench and ask him to remove her. After the game, we took her to the pediatrician, and unsurprisingly she had a pretty severe concussion that took several months to recover from.

Apparently no one noticed until Anderson forgot to put the guy in motion on one of the subsequent plays.

To me - any time a player’s head hits the ground that hard (as Anderson’s hit on that screen pass where the left tackle missed the block), they should be removed and evaluated immediately regardless.

Will the defense continue to be like swiss cheese? It is easy to be better on offense...hell, have a QB with a pulse, that'll do it for starters. Let alone a better RB, WR, and OL group...
I am predicting a return to the Koenning era in terms of defensive production. Hope I am way wrong on this.

Defense is a major concern of mine as well.

Does anyone know if Rutherford (assuming he is healthy) will be playing the middle LB or weakside LB spot? I am assuming they will put him at the WILL position given his speed. If that is the case, who are we starting at the MIKE position? One of the transfers? That MIKE position is really important in our defense and one of the reasons we were not great as a defensive unit last year - Shea was not a very good MIKE.

The other position that is damn important in our defense is free safety. Who are we looking at starting there?

Great questions - and knowing Sawful's track record, he won't figure it out for 8 games.
