Thoughts on the Game

1. The coaching staff missed on some defensive linemen/tackles and it showed BIG TIME in Saturday's game. Gabe Knapton is NOT a defensive tackle. Korey Jones is NOT a defensive end. The size up front is not there and Weber ran it down the Pokes' throat.

2. Its going to take me a bit to get used to Brett Smith's throwing motion. The shot-put throw kind of freaked me out. That being said, I don't think you could have asked for a better first game.

3. Thanks for catching the ball, Robert Herron. (dude's fast)

4. One word for the true freshman Refron (sp?) - smooth.

5. Brandon Miller - I don't remember the last time I saw a Poke running back not fall down on first contact.

6. Good job, O-Line! (the sacks on Smith were Brett's fault)

7. The missed tackles were ... unfortunate ... but something that can be fixed.

In the end it sounds like things that can be fixed week to week to make a decent season.

Okay that was stupid! it didn't even post my reply. i said, that it looks like small things for the most part that can be fixed from week to week to make for a decent season.

No problem KC - just go back to the post you meant to reply in and hit the edit button (top right), then you can put whatever you want in it.

I agree with the point you are making too.

That's good to no for future glitches. thanks.

Good points, not quite the doomsdayer some others are. It has only been one game but I think we are improved at every offensive position, or at least as good as last year. I thought the line played better, I thought the running backs did well, I only saw one drop maybe two from the receivers and they were able to get open, I thought Bret Smith played well. I saw noticable improvement on offense, although I was hoping we could run at will on them and we actually went away from the run game in the second half.

Agreed, Defensive Tackles should be one of our biggest recruiting need. We need some young true D tackles. I like putting speed out there but I still think we need some guys to clog up the middle. Nothing against Purcell, etc, because I think he does well, but I think we need more D tackles not very deep at that position, and I would like to have some size there. Mertens from last year could have made a difference, in fact...................

If we had Schober at middle LB, Mertens playing the D line, and Browder at safety we might have come away from this game feeling much differently. We had a lot of young players playing like young players, I think the D can and hope they do play better as the season goes on.
