Thoughts on the game

1. Instant Classic. Probably the most entertaining Wyoming football game I've ever seen. Everyone else thinks so too. I watched the game with a bunch of football fans - not necessarily Wyoming fans - and they came out of this game thoroughly impressed with Wyoming. This is a fanbase-building game.

2. THE STAND. Shocking. Absolutely Shocking. I've watched this defense all year, and there's no way I would have thought the Pokes' defense would have kept the nation's leading rusher out of the endzone on four tries. For all the great plays, those were the best, because Wyoming played well above and beyond for those four downs.

3. The announcer talked about how he had never heard of ACS before this game. He's heard of him now. So has every other college football pundit who watched that game. The dude's amazing. I can't wait to see him with a couple of speed-burners to open up the field. And to think, there's 3 more years of this.

4. OK, David Leonard. You've officially graduated from 'ok' to 'good' in the history of Wyoming wide receivers.

5. Dave Christensen and his staff coached their butts off this season. How many true freshman had significant playing time this year - including ACS? I'm sure this isn't the way they envisioned their spread offense, but they made it work as much as they could. They get SLAUGHTERED by Texas, TCU and BYU (CU wasn't great, either) - but the coaches still still kept the team believing in themselves. He's not on everyone's coaching rumor board yet, but he certainly got on a lot of people's radars.

6. As for the seniors - there's been a lot of disappointment over the past five years, for whatever reason. I hope this win puts a nice final spin on their careers.

7. TON of momentum for the program right now - very similar to after the 2004 Las Vegas Bowl win. But now the coaches, players and FANS need to build on it. DC will keep everyone working. I hope the game will entice some borderline recruits to wear brown and gold.

8. Now for the fans - time to step up. Like what you see? Buy tickets. Buy more tickets. Bring friends. Donate to CJC. Make sure talk radio is talking Wyoming. The team did everything you could hope for this year. Now it's our turn.

9. FAU. SDSU. UNLV. CSU. All wins by 3 points or less. ANY one of those games goes the other way, we're not all flocking on the message boards. Amazing.

This is the first opportunity I've had to see Ryan Mathews play. That kid is for real. I hope for Fresno fans' sake that he decides to stick around for his senior season.

I have a feeling somebody around him will point to a certain Sooners QB, and then he'll jump into the draft a year early.

My thoughts:

-I didn't think I could be anymore entertained after being at the SDSU game, but boom, it happened.

-Great showing from Wyo fans, real programs travel well and represent their team, and we always do that

-I think the bowl game could develop into a nice game for up and coming, front-range MWC teams if given the proper support

-For all those people who questioned if there are too many bowl games or if Wyoming should even accept a bid, please enjoy your crow

-Not really much anything else to say, WHAT A GREAT WIN

Also, it's going to be hard for many bowl games to top that one as far as the entertainment quality of a game goes. Sure we are all biased, but it was a very good football game. Few penalties, back and forth, overtime, couldn't ask for much more from a game.

Evil...

Great post. I had an awesome time in NM...and it was great to seek 12k+ UW fans in the stands. Given the current economic situation nationwide, and the fact that the NM Bowl is a lesser known game...I don't know too many schools that would equal that support. Great job UW Fans!

I'm very pleasantly surprised that so many Wyoming fans showed up. Sure a lot of people went through the NM website because of the high shipping/handling fees through UW's website, but when they announced they needed to sell another 1200 tickets or something, I still got a bit nervous.

How large of an area around Albuquerque sold all their alcohol? Was there any booze left in the entire state yesterday morning?
