Thoughts on the game after a couple days

I finally dipped my toe back into the wyonation forum after several days to mourn the loss of the boot. Seriously, I don't know how you guys can come on here on Sunday or even Saturday after the game. I felt bad enough after the game, the last thing I wanted to do is come here and feel worse. Here are some thoughts I have from the game on Saturday.

It was no suprise that the defense was bad. Its been bad all year but what happened to the offense. Brett was terrible. Makes you wonder if something was wrong with him or if it ws just a bad day. SOme of his throws were way off and his deep passesdidn't have any zip and hung up way too long. He was getting tons of pressure but has preformed great in the past while getting pressure. The trouble with the handoffs, don't know who is resposible or how that happens but it was troubling. I would put this loss as much or more on the offense than the defense since I never expected a good game from the D.

Not sure what to think about the coaching. The coach deserves the blame for not getting the team ready to play when it comes to gameplanning and assignments but we know from years past CDC has never had a problem motivating the team for the border war. So, the lack of effort/focus we saw on saturday is a such a mystery and I find it hard to place at the feet of coach since in the past if there was one game they were emotionally ready to play it was this one. How much of the loss was due to gameplanning/assignment outmanuevering and how much was due to effort/focus? Im not sure.

Ive been a Dave supporter from the very begining and I still am today. I want him to be the guy. We still have a lot of football left this year and I may change my opinion after the season. We have been so up and down this year. The way ive seen us play at certain times leads me to beleive we can still win the rest of the games on our schedule and the way we have played at certain times leads me to beleive we will lose the rest of the games. Guess there is nothing to do but watch the rest of the games and see which is closer to being true.

Hopefully, this will be the only post I make about the CSU game cuz if im forced to think about too much I start screaming random obsenities in the air. On to SJSU. Beat the Spartans.

Yes all of that! This season isn't over yet a lot could happen. I'm holding judgment on DC until this season is over.

I think it's a matter of motivation, or lack there of. And after hearing about the players partying at the Buck after the game, I tend to think I'm right, unfortunately.

I think everyone, staff, coaches, players and fans thought this would be an another win. Tell me you didn't look at the schedule early in the season and pencil a "w" next to the CSU game. I know I did.

It's been this way the entire time DC has been here...up and down, up and down, up and down. With that though, I think the Pokes will be fired up and ready for SJST. I'm thinking after the embarrassing loss, with season on the line considering the remaining schedule, they'll be ready. However, that doesn't mean it necessarily translates into a win.

Back to the players at the Buckhorn after the game...I'm with others on here, this really pisses me off. Of course it's not quite as bad as Steve McClain's basketball players partying at Lovejoy's the night before the game!! I saw it first hand.

I think it was a combination of several things on offense with Brett Smith that caused the problems. Several of these things were brought up by Gagliardi in his articles - but I saw them too. The O-line was awful on everything. They were getting pushed back into the backfield on every play & pass protection was horrible. The center was consistently snapping the ball low and slow which threw the timing off for Smith (especially on the read options). CSU's coach had really put some time and thought into this game plan and out coached DC in that he had Smith contained on just about every play and Smith didn't have anywhere to go or scramble. I'm pretty sure he had been working on this game plan for a long time. Smith's throws weren't always on target (mainly due to pressure), but many times his receivers didn't help him out either.
I'm betting this CSU coach will have them in the championship game sooner that we will be.
