Thoughts from spring game

First off the wind was blowing pretty strong the whole game. Despite that overall I thought the qbs looked pretty good. Sween definitely looked better then Barry, but I still think either of the 2 incoming qbs could take over the starting job. There were a few passes knocked down at the line, and a few bad passes, but overall I thought we looked pretty good throwing the ball.

The problem was we were super weak at receiver. I bet there was at least 10 passes dropped by receivers that bounced off their hands. Hopefully they will improve by the fall or hopefully we have some good incoming freshman because we need some help there.

The defense looked good. I think they will be the strong point of the team again.

The running backs also looked strong. They all had several good runs. I think it really helps running lots of plays out of a 5 wide set, it seems to open up holes for our runningbacks when we don't throw the ball.

I really liked the no huddle offense. It works way better then the terrible double-cadence thing we had a couple years ago. Everyone lines up right after the play, and the new play is called in at the line of scrimmage. The new no huddle has the defense running around a whole lot, and keeps everyone on their toes. I think it will work well. The only time it doesn't is if we don't get a first down then it makes our defense come back on the field too soon, but if we get a first down we can seem to keep moving the ball steadily.

The main thing I was dissappointed in was all the dropped balls. The other somewhat dissappointing thing was when we got near the endzone say around the 25 yard line we didn't take any shots at the endzone. Pretty much regardless of where we were on the field we kept the same gameplan with short to medium range throws or running the ball. I hope that during the season when we get around the 25-30 yardline we try to throw some to the endzone because some of the teams we play won't let us get a first down within the 10 yard line everytime.

I was also a little dissappointed that we didn't see any longer passes when driving down the field. We had lots of passes that were 10 yards or less, which seemed to work pretty well, but I would still like to see some 30 yard passes.

The play calling was very even between run and pass which was nice to see. It was also nice to see some different plays such as passes to the running backs out of the backfield, and some reverses.

My favorite 2 plays were:

Sween handing off too Terry who then pitched it too stewart (I think) in a reverse. Stewart then ran from the backfield around the end and then he ran through the defensive backfield for a touchdown from around the 15 yard line.

The other was about a 10 yard pass to Darius Terry, who then juked the corner and broke a tackle for about a 20 yard completion into the redzone.

I honestly did not get that good of a look at how many people made i, because I kind of sat at the end of the stands. But it did look like a fairly good number showed up considering the weather. My guess from my view of where I was sitting would be 1500-2000 people. Although I can't honestly say if that might be a high or low estimate
