This makes me sick...

I know quite a few people who would much prefer UW be a competitive, winning entity in FCS than a perennial basement dweller in one of the weakest conferences in FBS.

Now there is concrete scientific and statistical based evidence

I hope Mr. Peck is not a UW student. If Mr. Peck is a student, then by his logic, he is a testament of why UW should drop academics. The complete inability to clearly articulate a point with sound statistical and factual evidence apparently escapes him.

Nope, I didn't write it, but I don't have to tell you I agree with it 100%. It's long overdue we move down to where we can compete.

I know you all disagree. I have facts on my side. You have history and hope. So, keep thumping your chests about how good the football program was in the 60s, 70s and 80s, and I will keep pointing out how it's been one of the worst football programs in Division I/FBS since the late 90s. Keep enjoying those three and four win seasons with the occasional New Mexico Bowl thrown in there. Talk about a bowl to get excited about. Keep enjoying getting worked over by Eastern Michigan. But hey, we're FBS, right? Yahoo!!!!

You say I don't care about the program, but look in the mirror. It's you who doesn't care. You don't care how bad the team is, or for how long. You can't see the forest for the trees. You don't care about Wyoming football at all, you care about the FBS designation. Twenty years from now, when three more coaches have been hired and fired and the next guy is "going to turn it around," you'll all still be here, parroting the same things over and over. Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Pick your cliche. This program cannot, and will not win at the FBS level on consistent basis ever again. Call it hating if you must. I call it 20 years of reality.

Just like the score margin the other night, if your facts say we haven't been good since the late 90's then again, you need to find new facts...
2000 is when we fell apart record wise. Recruiting wise probably about 98.

Wyoming would drop the sport and go all out for basketball Gonzaga style before moving to the Big Sky.

Yes I believe 98 was the last really good team. I was a sophomore in college. Ranked pretty high during the course of the season.

I would be all for this. I think we can build a strong basketball program in the vein of Gonzaga, Wichita State, etc. While I would certainly miss September tailgating in Laramie, I wouldn't miss getting pounded game in and game out. I can't remember the last game I went to the team actually won.

Oh my.

I, personally will take an occasional New Mexico Bowl here and there, no problem, versus dropping a level of competition. Wyoming is on a bad 16 year streak right now, no doubt. Blame Tom Burman and his vision - with the 2 coach firings (Joe & Dickface) in his tenure. Before that, blame Moon for Vic's hiring (horrible hire), and blame the board of trustees for not allowing Moon to hire Urban (epic mistake). So, here we are, still trying, and we have to give 'ol Bohly a shot...and at least 5 years before anything is done (which in my opinion would be cleaning house). Some people, like you, when the going gets tough or things seem insurmountable, take their ball and go play with the girls on the other side of the playground. Some people, like me, keep trying - and working to be the best...never giving up.

You continually fail to realize that dropping a level in football does more than potentially make the team competitive - there is no guarantee that will happen by the way. You lose TV money, you lose football scholarship and scholarship money (cost of attendance), you lose booster money, you lose budget, you lose title IX scholarships for other sports, you lose FBS conference affiliation, you lose other sports, you lose department staff - top to bottom, you lose just general interest (and most importantly) you lose a fanbase.

So if you want Wyoming to fail, really fail, let's drop a level and completely alienate our fanbase. Those 30 years of 5,000 in the stands after dropping a level will be fun to watch (and watch from afar for me personally).

This crazy talk of dropping a level has seriously gotten out of hand. If you think UW dropping to FCS is a good idea you are mentally retarded or hate UW and want to see it fail. Look at all the reasons listed above by McPeachy.

You will never convince me that we would lose the fan base. You people would honestly rather watch a shitty FBS team than a dominant FCS one? You wouldn't trade places with NDSU or Montana right now, in a heartbeat? I sure as hell would. If you wouldn't, I say again: You don't care about the football team or results, you care about the three letters—FBS. All the rest of this is window dressing. You either want to see a successful football team, or you don't. Which is it? You and I agree on one point, certainly. There is no guarantee we would be successful at the FCS level. The North Dakota and Cal-Poly games showed us all that. But we have a hell of a lot better chance of being a dominant FCS school than we do at FBS.

You would be all for this? Are you out of your mind? Drop football? Get lost. We have only just begun to build a perennial conference contender with Craig Bohl. When we're on the cusp of winning the MWC in the next few years and the state is going ga-ga over Wyoming football again for the first time in eons...I'll remember your insane thoughts.

I'd rather drop football than drop to FCS, and my Wyoming fan friends are on the same page, so at least that's 10 or so fans lost. I have a feeling we're not unique in the fanbase, though.

In all seriousness, what's the point then? If we're not competing at the highest level we can, spend that money on improving academics instead. It's a university first, after all.

P.S. Mr Peck (and I believe you are here on this board somewhere) you can kiss my ass, and I speak for the overwhelming majority of Wyoming fans here.

You must be frustrated that moving to France in 1938 isn't an option for you...

I'm convinced that you're projecting your own surrender monkey life experience onto UW Football. Thank God the program's sooooo much bigger than you or your way of thinking. Somewhere in there, I believe, is an agenda to make yourself feel better about settling for whatever instead of getting what you really want (because, darn it, it's just too hard and you're just not good enough) by seeing UW Football do the same. You DON'T have facts on your side. FACT is, it's not an option. UW can either play FBS Football or not play football.

There are two types of people who get lost in the woods. Those who realize they are the ones who will determine whether or not they get out alive, and those who just sit down and, basically, just die of shame.

Which are you?

I think another thing that people assume when discussing dropping a level, is that we would be competitive due to the players we currently get. If we dropped a level we would be losing out on the more talented recruits we do get. I completely disagree with dropping, I'm not saying that we would not be competitive, but I am saying that the recruiting would drop and we would be losing out on the good Colorado and surrounding area recruits, to Colorado, CSU, and any other surrounding FBS school. Give the program time. I am frustrated just like all of the other Poke fans, but I don't think that dropping is going to solve any problems.
