This Luke thing is getting worse

Yikes.

Due to the media coverage, I think we may see a similar reaction from UW that we saw following the DC media attention. That is a reaction from the University such as Cooke and Sobey being indefinitely suspended as well from the team and Martinez being suspended from the University.

Add the CDC tirade to this, and UW is building a new modern image for its athletics for sure. Not good.

Yikes is right. Luke is right up there in importance with Julianne Hough ripping her dress dancing at a Golden Globes after party.

J-Rod I totally agree. It is not good. But modern image, that works for USC, LSU and all those programs right?

That is one of those jokes, that is kinda serious...and not funny just sad.

Remeber when the LSU QB Jefferson got in trouble for fighting the cops when there was that big bar brawl with all those LSU football players?

It is sad that to get good talent we have to get so many wanna-be thugs and hard asses.
I don't mean UW, I mean sports and college sports in general

There is no reason to suspend either Cooke or Sobey. Sounds to me like some fans are overreacting. The best thing would be for Shyatt to dismiss Martinez from the team. That sends the needed message.

Why would Sobey be suspended?

I'm not saying Cooke or Sobey should be suspended. I have no idea what the team rules are and any more surrounding facts. I am just stating my opinion on how the University might react to the negative publicity. Remember, DC was only suspended AFTER the video was released to the public even though the University had seen it before hand. It is stupid, but media pressure has a huge effect on how the University reacts (even though it should have none).

I think he means why are you even mentioning Sobey, he was not mentioned in the article and I haven't heard his name being linked to this in any form prior to you mentioning it.

EDIT: I just read the affidavit, now I see why you mention Sobey, although beyond the initial mention of him being present there is no further mention of his involvement in the fight.

I'll bet the fans of the teams the Pokes visit from now on are going to have a field day with this in their jeers.

WestWyo, I got the same thing after reading the affidavit. Sobey isnt even listed as one of the witnesses. Furthermore, just based on this affidavit, I can see why no action has been taken against Cooke. The bouncer told the police Cooke punched the victim while trying to defend Martinez and there was also some mention of Cooke being grabbed. I wonder what got this all started though.

There's no two ways about it, this is a nightmare for the program. As I noted in the other thread, in my opinion this causes Shyatt credibility problems with fans and recruits regarding his team-first ethic. "Aggressive, Disciplined, Unselfish." This was aggressive I guess but it sure as fuck wasn't disciplined or unselfish.

And it isn't just this incident, its also the Washington (x2) and Smith incidents.

I think you're over reacting a bit. Its not good, but certainly isnt a nightmare. The Washington issue is in my mind a sucess story. THe incident last spring was blown way out proportion. Smiths incident was not related to the team at all. I think Shyatt has the full support of the school and state.

I could be wrong and maybe it will in the long run blow over. Spinning Washington as a success story is one way to look at it but its not an isolated incident now, and he himself screwed up a second time somehow when he was supposedly working his way back from the suspension for the first incident. And Smith committed a crime while he was a member of the hoops team and got himself kicked off; ergo, it was related to the team. That's my whole point, this is three different dudes who apparently don't understand how their decisions off the court affect the team on it.

If being in the Buckhorn at that hour (or any hour) during training or season is a violation of team rules, then he should be suspended. Same with Cooke. In the end, it's up to Coach...

Yup. And regardless of whether they were involved in the fight at all (in Sobey's case), acting in self-defense/defense of someone else (Cooke), or violating any team rules by being at the Buck at 2 am (all three), it at best exhibits poor judgment to have been there at all and really, really poor judgment not to bail at the first sign of trouble.
