Coming from the idiot that said, "we will never pay a coach $1,000,000 at the University of Wyoming".

His figures are all bullshit guessing, he doesn't have a clue.

Read that as well. He has no clue what the cost could or should be. Just like he doesn't know what his salary is at.

what does it say? I do not have a login for the Boomerang. Is it just this same article: https://www.wyomingnews.com/wyospor...cle_17a156b2-e26d-4f4a-bc81-c83c0f7a73c3.html

We have 0 evidence that any of the people involved here have any idea how to win a conference championship. They all would be better off indicating that they are just hoping to improve as a result of these additional investments made by the state. Quit acting like these conference championships are going to happen soon.

Finally, a good law firm representing a major news outlet needs to sue a couple of the schools to make the public funds being paid to players public records. I just don't see how that should be treated as some sort of "trade secret". Under that logic the AD and coaches salaries should be "trade secrets" as well.

I just read this today on Wyoming Sports Net. Maybe its old news.

As (UW men’s basketball coach Sundance Wicks) says, I’m happy to make a couple kids millionaires, but I want to have them for a couple years and then pat them on the back and say, ‘Go get paid in the Big Ten, I’m proud of you.’

We will make you millionaires...but go get paid in the Big Ten. Huh? I am proud of you. Really?

It is a disaster. More like...go tear an ACL (not really).

I think Wicks was trying to say he would develop them for a couple of years to the point where they could transfer and become millionaires in another conference. His wording wasn't very clear, but we definitely don't have millions of dollars to pay our basketball players.

Coaches are in a tough spot with all this transfer stuff. If they say, "I want guys who want to come here for four years and who don't care about chasing a paycheck", then it is going to negatively impact their recruiting. I don't know if Wicks is actually proud of players that leave to go make money elsewhere, but he basically has to say that if he wants to be able to recruit any legitimate players to Laramie. It's the sad reality of things these days.

That makes sense and you are right. I read it to mean...we will make you millionaires and then you can go become super-millionaires in the Big 10 with a pat on the back. Yes, this makes more sense and I see the reality in Wicks' statement. It is less offensive to me but still hoping for an ACL.

Sunny is aware of the reality of the situation. He would be as happy as all of us if we could keep a Graham Ike on the roster for the entirety of his career. He also knows that if a school with a big budget comes and throws 7 figures at a kid that UW cannot compete with that. I can tell you for a fact that there are guys that will be coming back this year that will turn down making more money to stay and have consistent coaching. That being said, everyone has a number. I love my job, but if I got offered 5x my current salary to work somewhere else I'd say yes in a heartbeat.

Absolutely. I was offered 3x the money working on contract systems development. I turned it down because despite the great income I would have had no life, lived in hotels and an 80 hour work week would have been a light week for up to 6 months at a time under intense pressure.

While there would not be that extreme in a college sport, one wrong move for a few dollars more could ruin any chance at even an overseas pro career if the situation left the player on the bench because they couldn’t deliver at the expected results level.
