they eliminated the read option

I've seen it all now. the 3-3-5 alignment was perfectly executed

if you watch how they lined up presnap. they dominated certain gaps (the gaps that miller/wick, and smith's lane) by presnap alignment. they would stack two linebackers to bretts side, then collapse the opposite side of the line with two lineman which effectively would string out miller or wick. they put a hell of a medium depth zone with 5 dbs. they only way to have beaten this would have been to make some adjustment within the game itself, running the ball through the 0 gap.

running a tightend through the zone would have helped as well.

our offense couldn't adjust. thank god we have a bye week.... we need to add a new wrinkle, cause franchoine just schooled our future opponents on how to beat our limited running attack by attacking the same gaps all night long.

on a side note. I don't like the longhorn network, and the 4th quarter was dismal, clairborne ran a catch out of bounds and for some reason the clock kept ticking. the refs didn't help matters. the call on the roughing the punter... REALLY? the two block in the back penalties.

we can bitch about our defense, or our offense. but last night was dirty diaper from all angles... cameras, officiating, schemes, weather, ruffran. lets see what we can change with two weeks off. need to get this engine in the shop and fix it!

Cant run the read option properly without or best back in the game. Wick 4 freaking carries are you kidding me? Our coaching staff couldn't counter with any offensive set that worked. Starting Miller was a disaster In the long run. They should have gone with the two back set and motioned miller out setting up the swing pass or read option. They never had the right personel in the game and never did anything to take the olb out of middle. With a 3-3-5 stack you have to motion a back out and run up the middle Or keep it. Brett seemed out of rhythm kept it when he shouldnt and handed it iff when he shouldnt. Poor preparation in practice led to this cluster fuk

we need a new package against that 3-3-5. Im not the coach, Im sure he will figure it out.

what I would do though, is create something like the pistol with wings in the situation like last night.

put wick behind smith in the shotgun. have miller and Claiborne somewhere behind the tackles; then attack the gaps the defense gives us. and run a lot of play action flares and sweeps. add some motion in there. maybe even put Easton in there instead of miller or Claiborne.

if they decide to shift to seven in the box... then motion miller and clairborne out wide.

I shouldn't be sunday quarterbacking... but we should have been able to establish a running game against 6 in the box. we need to find gaps that work, instead of running into the same overloaded gap.

Im not a sky is falling guy. maybe this loss will help us evolve a package that really utilizes our offensive talent.

I agree with you carbonpoke. The more offensive sets we have to counter a 3-3-5 the more the defense has to think and adjust. If there are 6 or 7 in the box you have to motion backs or slots to get them out of the inside gaps. We were out numbered by the defense in the box and their stack formation prevented our line from getting clean blocks on the backers At the second level. Most Iimportantly their nose guard was kicking the shit out of our center. Anyways we should of torched their secondary, but it was a rare off night for Brett and the receiving corps. Just glad it wasnt a conference game... so at least we're still undefeated in Conference play. We have regroup and kick the crap out of UNM. Just sucks to lose before a bye week. Leaves 2 weeks of marinating in a bad loss.

It seems like I read in a web pointer in one of the posts the DC said it didn't matter what the defense was, he had is plays that he was going to call. When I saw that my response was "What?" My God, don't you adjust to what the defense is doing? If the plays aren't tuned to the defense, 6-6 will be the the dream season. Otherwise it''s downhill from here.

Brett was under tremendous pressure and really had no time to throw. The read option, ie inside and outside zone choice, is only part of the spread scheme that Wyoming runs. They game plan every week for changes and adjustments at the half. Problem this week was there was a 3 hour half time! LOL CDC stated that it was the worst our O line protected all year. Remember we are young and inexperienced at the O line. They are going to have some letdowns while they are on the learning curve. Everybody take a deep breath and relax. No need to panic, a bye week and we need to get Dom healthy and we will be fine. Toughest part of the schedule is on the horizon and I am confident that the Pokes will re-group and dive in strong. During the off-season though, regardless of record, I think they could all do with hitting the weight room, mainly the linemen on both sides of the ball. I'm not saying they need to get heavier, but there's no such thing as having too strong of linemen.

Yeah it just seems like our D line and O line just gets out performed by strong lines. I remember our Lines getting their asses kicked by Cal Poly. That cant happen. Even Northen Colorado gave our lines problems.

I really think it is hillarious when people criticize Dave Christensen's offensive schemes and plans.
Yeah DC doesn't know offense at all...good god.

Can we at least agree that when it comes to the run game our calls are very vanilla? We all know the passing game dominates the majority of the play book. Why did we pick up that big TE for shit and giggles?

Did you even read the original post? It's not like this guy is talking out of his ass, he's using factual information to back up what he is saying. Texas State clearly had Wyoming's run game figured out. Why is it a big deal to you if someone points that out?
