The Washington Native Americans

I think the term redskin is incredibly offensive. We wouldn't find it acceptable to call anyone the "niggers" would we?
Seminole, Ute, and Braves are all fine. Redskin is literally a derogatory term for Indians.
 
I think people who get offended are pussys. "Sticks and stones may break some bones but if words hurt you might be a giant whale vagina"

Just to get this into perspective, would you walk up to a Native American and say, "Hey redskin, how's it going in your teepee?"

Is "Redskins" a term that at one time was not "offensive" to a certain group but now is? Otherwise why would a team chose as its identity a term that conotates something that it wouldn't want to be associated with. I don't see any teams like the Austin Assholes, the Pueblo Pantwetters, or decauter Dicks.
 
I should add, that "Redskins" can be used as a term of endearment , the same as the term "geezer" is used. It can also be used offensively as a term of contempt, or as a term of endearment. Which one is Washington using it as?

Um, how can the term "redskins" be used as a term of endearment? It would be like calling a black guy, and forgive me for saying this, "porch monkey" and trying to tell him that you only meant it in a nice way as he's beating your face in.

Same way the term nigger wasn't offensive back in the day but as people progress they realize some shit isn't okay to say?
 
Funny thing is.....Washington actually has a nickname they could use instead. They've been called the Hogs for years now......
 
It's funny, but no one either remembers or wants admit that the term "Redskins" was used first by many Native American Indian tribes. If it's a term accepted by the same people it describes, why is it the white and blacks are the offended ones?

Serious question, would you call ANY Native Americans "redskins"? Hell, 150 years ago, it was an accepted practice to call black people, and once again I apologize, "niggers" to demean them and keep them seperate from others.
 
I am a die hard Redskins fan and have been for 40 years. I do not have a problem with the name and not much offends me though. If they were called the Washington White Guys I would not be offended either. If the name Redskins if offensive to people (most Native Americas do not have any issue with the name, it is like everything else it is a select few) then what about the Cleveland Browns, I mean what is a Brown? If the Redskins change their name and we know what a Redskin is we have to have the Browns change their name too.
