the Steamboat logo

I'm having a discussion with a buddy of mine.

He thinks UIW should drop the logo for something updated. I told him UW tried and people across the state were so mad about that the governor told UW to change the primary logo back to the Steamboat logo or else!!!!

So should UW change the logo?
 
My two cents.........

Big difference between "should" and reality. I don't think the higher-ups or the boosters would ever approve of a logo change.

But for conversations sake, I'll humor you........My question would be, what is Wyoming changing the logo too?

Too this? Or that other alternate Cowboy logo I've seen(Can't for the life of me find it)? I'd only be in favor of a change if the logo was a clear obvious upgrade and not some joke.

EDIT: And who the heck is UIW? :lol:
 
Steamboat is well known throughout the country. Anywhere I go, whenever someone sees Steamboat I immediately hear, "Oh, a Wyoming Cowboy huh?"
Everyone knows our logo. Don't change it. That even more stupid than changing our color scheme in 2000.

I believe Louisiana-Monroe had to change their logo, but that was due to their forced name change too. The same will happen to North Dakota.

Edit: SoDak St. changed their logo too I believe. But it had no bearing on their football helmets.

Just for conversation's sake, I'd have the same question.

But in reality, no. Never. The logo is recognizable everywhere, and is just about all I wear anymore. If you put UW on something, you get questions about Washington or the Huskies. but with Steamboat, there's no question. Ever.

+1 Agreed. I've never ever been able to refer to Wyoming as "UDub/UW" without someone saying "You mean Washington/Wisconsin?" Steamboat is much more distinctive.

UWs logo is the most recognizable in just about all of college athletics. No one has a logo like it. So many of these teams copy each others colors, or logos, or blah blah blah. UW has unique colors, unique logo, and best of all, since it's copyrighted by the State of Wyoming, it'll never be used anywhere else.
 
not when i can get into a cab in vegas and the cabbie (in whatever accent he speaks in) looks at my hat and gives me a thumbs up and says "hey! powder river!"

(i realize that the powderriver, let er buck thing is over...and las vegas cabbies probably see a few wyoming fans a year going to/from unlv games...but was still pretty cool)
 
Color scheme open to change. Logo is not. I actually liked the unis we had against texas and CSU.

i thought those jerseys looked good also...i just wasn't a huge fan of the pinstriping, i would've prefered something more specifically western like a brown paisley or something
 
We have to figure some way out to get barbed wire and spurs on the uni! Wait, I think all the barbed wire tats probably ruined the barbed wire thing.
 
Anyone who engages in serious conversation about changing the logo/colors should be shot on the spot, no questions asked.
 
I love the Wyoming logo. It would be a mistake to not use it anymore.

I'd put it on a gold helmet though. I don't like white helmets for any team.

I don't like the gold helmets. I've seen them in pictures from the 1970s. :puke:

I love the ones we had from 1987-1996.
