The Robert Priester targeting call

I would think it would be impossible to eliminate all helmet to helmet contact from the game. Penalizing incidental contact in a game based around physical contact seems silly to me.

I actually agree with you.

I am just telling what I believe to be the reality. I don't know how they will be able to eliminate hits to the head but they are going to be forced to barring some major technological breakthrough. Financial liabilities will dictate as such.
I know. I just don't see how they are going to eliminate or significantly reduce head trauma without completely eliminating contact from the game. You can get a concussion tripping and falling while you are walking down the street. There isn't much more that can be done to prevent the brain from moving and hitting bone within the skull.

Welcome to the PAC 12, officiating is just atrocious year in and year out. I was right on the yard line at the game where it happened and I have a 50 in TV above my seat for replays as I sit under the pressbox overhang. Call was just terrible.

As my dad once told his HS football team, "don't want to hit, go play soccer.

Concussions are a hot topic in soccer too. Chess anyone?

Urgh, I gave somebody a concussion a few weeks ago playing soccer. I was going full speed down the sideline with the ball and passed it ahead just as they stepped in front of me - never saw them coming, and my shoulder made full contact with their jaw. It's rough knowing that you knocked somebody out by accident in a freaking semi-casual league. I felt so freaking guilty, even though I had no chance avoiding the contact.

I've had a few concussions, but not from football or soccer. All 3 came from my martial arts class. 2 from well placed jabs while sparring a couple of times (a good jab can KO someone, even if it's only a flash KO). The other came from bad timing on holding kicking pads. A guy (who at the time was about 6ft 220lbs) was kicking some pads with some force, and when you hold the pads, you meet the kick before it connects with the pads to take away some of the force from your arms, and I moved the pads just a little too late and took a full force shin kick to the face. Trust me, that doesn't feel very good.
