Wyoming football fans are gearing up for their biggest home game in years. Tomorrow, 13th ranked Boise State comes to War Memorial Stadium in Laramie for a nationally televised battle against the 5-2 Pokes.

If the Cowboys can pull off the upset, they’ll vault into first place in the Mountain West Conference, become bowl eligible and might even make the national polls.

Here’s a look back at the five biggest upset victories in the history of University of Wyoming football.

We definitely aren't overlooking Wyoming like some seem to think, I hope we can sprinkle plenty of Blue and Orange around the stadium tomorrow. BOISE!

That is a truly unimpressive list. Tennessee was 6-6 that year and looked like they didn't want to be there. I was at the Las Vegas bowl game in 2004. We lose that game if their qb doesn't get hurt. Plus, they weren't any good anyway.

There has to be some better wins than that. I'm pretty sure we were fairly big underdogs in 1987 when we went into Provo and won. I'm also thinking that beating Arizona state in 1976 was a pretty big upset. We won the WAC that year.

That was Tennessee's first non-confernce home loss to a non P5 program in over 20 years. Regardless of your opinion, that was a big win. And we actually did beat UCLA regardless of your QB getting hurt. But, a game that probably shouldn't have made the list.

I think the win over Virginia should have made the list. They ended up playing in a New Years Day bowl that year and had a pretty good record. I'm not sure how big of a dog we were that day however.

There have been bigger wins over good programs. All that can be found here:

Hey moron, UCLA is not my team. I'm making a point that we beat a 5 loss team that was beating us by until their qb got hurt. We were 12 1/2 point dogs in that game. We've already won 2 games this year as double digit dogs.
And who cares if Tennessee hadn't lost to a p5 school in 20 years? They fired their coach after that game. That was a bad team and so were we. The reason we were such big underdogs is because we got the shit kicked out of us several times that year.
The Virginia win was not an upset. The line on that game was less than a field goal. It was a good win, but not an upset

Actually they fired Fat Phil the week before but allowed him to finish out the season.

Calling me a moron because I have a different opinion. I will say I didn't mean to say your QB...I meant their QB. But still, calling a person a moron on a message board is childish.

What about 1999 when BYU came to Laramie ranked in the top 25 and the Pokes beat them? That was a glorious day. The goalposts wound up at the Buckhorn. Even though I was there I still have the televised game on VHS so I could watch it again when I got home. If my memory wasn't so faded I am sure I could come up with more. Somewhere in the cobwebs of my mind I seem to recall a big upset against a ranked Arizona State.

Oops, that one is on the list. See how bad my memory is!

I think we can add another one to this list tonight! I can't believe that is the first time the Pokes have ever beaten Boise. And the first time in MW history to be 3-0 and now 4-0.

This was big for that reason alone. To be the top dog you need to beat the top dog. It was nice to finally get a win over Boise.

Looking at it rationally, this is one of the biggest wins Wyoming has had. Sure, all those big bowl wins 50+ years ago were nice, but Wyoming was not at such a disadvantage back then. Sure Boise isn't Alabama, but they're a team that's been winning a ton for over a decade (and gets solid recruits as a result), that has been absolutely manhandling us, and they were undefeated and trying to make a case for a New Year's Six bowl and a chance to play for a National Championship. With all those other undefeateds losing today, they had everything to win, and we still beat them.
