The arrogance of SDSU

God how I wish we'd crush these clowns.

The way to respond to any perceived arrogance is to ignore it. Acknowledging arrogance is like letting a dog smell fear. The great reward in it, is if we pull the upset, you don't make a big deal about it and send the message that you don't consider it an upset, because you didn't consider them to be better to begin with.

Arrogance can't stand indifference.

Yeah, I hope they get a kick in the balls. Hopefully the Pokes run over them. Not too worried about Lindley, he hasn't shown much in any of his games (Smith would probably have started for SDSU this year, he's been putting up much better numbers), keep half decent coverage on his WRs, we'll be good. Hillmen is the real threat though. The guy can slice up defenses, and arm tackling is practically useless on him. That said, his size, while it allows him to be quick and agile, makes him vulnerable as well. He won't be able to really power through many people at all. Contain him, the defense will have an easier time of it. They just need to actually contain him though.

I'm sure they would point to our SDSU thread about us hoping for them falling on their face this year. Home message boards are what they are. Nothing the Pokes can do but go out and stick it to them if they want to prove something.

I thought it was actually pretty mild for overconfident SDSU fans standards. Typically such threads are accompanied with the "kick WYO out of the conference," aura.

It was still only the first page though.

Actually, there are three pages and it is very interesting if you read through all of them. The first page were all submitted before the UNLV game. the second page seems to be while we are playing UNLV and the third page is after. The tone changes dramatically. They are still confident they will win, but the respect factor takes a huge turn.

I completely agree with Wyovanian. Act like we knew we would win and that we belong at the top of the MWC, which we do!

I didn't see anything out of line in that thread. Just the normal stuff I expect to hear from other teams. If I was them I would feel pretty confident too. Our defense has not played good against the run and they have the leadding rusher in the nation. I beleive we can and will win but I don't blame them for thinking they will win. I guess i am in hte minority but for the most part I enjoy the sdsu peeps on MWCboard.

When you only need one picture to express your feelings.

I don't get the mentality of people who go to other teams' boards and expect the fans there to think it will be a close game when the other team IS the better team on paper. There's a reason they're 18 point favorites - they SHOULD win this based on how we've played this season.

There's nothing wrong with having confidence in your team, and I seriously don't think they have different sentiments than any other fan base. Of course there's always assholes that post as well, but considering we have college-age guys on there along with older fans, that'll happen. It's not like we have the most amazing fanbase in the world either - though it seems the rotten eggs among the Wyoming fanbase are more likely to troll their own team's fans than those of any other fanbase.

Anyway, it's not like SDSU is anything like BYU. Many of their fans think they'll win easily, and so does most of the rest of the college football fans who know anything about the two teams. It IS nice to see that there were quite a few people calling it a "trap game," however. I hope we can make it so, and pull the upset. It's definitely not anything I expect, though. SDSU is far better than UNLV, and I really don't want to see anything resembling the USU game again. Please.

Actually they are not the better team on paper it's a fairly even match up by statistical data.

PASSING YARDS 225.7 64th Overall
RUSHING YARDS 192.7 28th Overall
POINTS FOR 30.3 46th Overall
POINTS AGAINST 30.7 90th Overall

SDSU

PASSING YARDS 215.0 76th Overall
RUSHING YARDS 179.3 39th Overall
POINTS FOR 29.3 56th Overall

In comparing stats, it is WHO the stats are against. SDSU earned it numbers against some stout teams. The Pokes only real toughy was Nebraska.

They can say what they like but I guarantee you that they are not watching the video I posted on Poke Pride Monday. 2009 in San Diego that was a great game.

I don't think you need paper to know that SDSU is a more talented team this year. It's quite obvious. That doesn't mean they're unbeatable. From my experience with Wyoming football, the team seems to do better when they're not expected to as opposed to when they are. Maybe that's just in my head.

Like you said, you can't wander off onto another team's board and be surprised that they think they can beat you. Just wait until we play New Mexico and then read the things our fanbase says about the Lobos and then try to justify it. I could already go back right now and find some examples of us acting "arrogant" towards UNM and UNLV. Want me to? I will..

I would like to have been a fly on the wall of the locker rooms before the games and at halftime for the games of NMex & UNLV last year and USU this year so that I could have heard what was said. We evidently had the wrong attitude going into all those games.

No kidding!

Maybe the craziest comeback I've ever watched.

None of the teams you have listed for SDSU are anything special but Michigan which they lost anyway. The other teams have winning records by beating mediocre teams and losing to teams they should have beat.
