Terry Frei: CSU & CU fans should root for each other

In addition to anyone interested in reading this piece, I might also ask Wyoming fans who they root for? (if they root at all) in this game which is close to concluding its series, unfortunately.

As for myself, this is the only game I root for CSU to win whenever it is played. I cannot bring myself to root for Boulder or the players in black & gold jersey's.

I'd also love to see Wyoming & Colorado schedule a series of games.

Story below...

Colorado State and Colorado football coaches and players will participate in their leagues' media days this week — the

Rams in Las Vegas with the Mountain West and the Buffaloes in Los Angeles with the Pac- 12.

That heralds the beginning of preseason practices in early August, and they'll eventually get together for the Rocky Mountain Showdown on Sept. 19 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

In all my years in Colorado, in the wake of graduating from the school in Boulder and covering both programs, this is the part I "get" but don't understand: Especially because the state schools are in different leagues, CU fans enthusiastically should be rooting for CSU, and CSU fans enthusiastically should be rooting for CU. Except in one game, of course. But they don't.

Having both programs doing well is good for college football in the state, and thus good for both. When an elite, deservedly much-coveted Colorado prep prospect knows he can pick between two winning programs in a state increasingly paying attention to the college game, that's progress. For both.

I always root for the MWC conference team. More so when they are playing CU. CU won't have the guts to come up to Laramie to play football, I.e., see basketball.future series announcements

I cheer for CSU to support the MWC.

I also don't see the CU football rvrr regaining wjat they had under coach Mac. They don't want to sink the $$$ needed to compete at that level anymore.

First thought is that it always amazes me how AF is overlooked even in their own state. AF just schedule a series with the Buffs, I think.

For the topic, I cheer for neither and pay it little attention. The "rivalry" is just one of many in CFB and not a main one. Outside of our rivalries, I only pay attention to the bigger ones (Red River, OSU-Mich, etc.).

There will never come a day that I root for CSU. They could play any team in CFB and I will hope for a crushing blowout loss. As for CU, they're a bunch of pussies too and I hope their program shrivels and disappears just like this apparent rivalry.

Pop quiz: CSU vs. BYU. Who do you root for? (And don't say for someone to nuke the stadium, because we would all root for that)

Haha. I turn the channel!! I would root for BYU. I just puked in my mouth. I loathe CSU's existence. I hate their administration. I hate their students. I hate their fans. I hate their coaches. I hate their players. I want nothing but losses and sadness for them all. I don't hate BYU nearly as much. I wouldn't mind if BYU came back just because I loved that rivalry. I hate them as whole but one of my favorite memories was beating the Cougs and tearing down the goal posts!!!

Especially me! :D

My $0.02 on both....

CSU aka Fort Fart = where stupid people go to become even dumber!
BYU = the Evil Empire. Nuff said!!!!

I'll never root for CSU in anything, ever. I wish them to never win another sporting event, and to close their doors as a university. CU while also a bunch of pussies, is at least a real university that people actual care about.

CU vs CSU I cheer for CU. Go Buffs.

CSU vs BYU I cheer for CSU without a doubt.

I am from the west side of the state so my hatred for BYU is much stronger.

Growing up as a kid in Evanston we don't really care about CSU, we know it's a rivalry but BYU is the true enemy.

csu hands down...basically exactly what Beav said. As a west-sider growing up, csu was only slightly more hated than AFA, UNM, etc. byu on the other hand...F*©& those guys.

CSU vs. byu? CSU all the way.

I despise CSU as much as the next person, but byu is an entire different level. Had byu succeeded with their little project, the MWC (and WYO) would have been screwed worse than we are. byu is a destabilizing force in the West. The worse they do, the better for the MWC.

Like I said, it is a damn shame that any of us schedule them. Their TV deal will be coming up and they were largely a ratings flop. However, they will be re-negotiating with ESPN. We also will be doing the same. byu's pitch can be "we already schedule a bunch of MWC teams and their best teams, just pay us and you get their product. You don't need to pay them."

When they get snubbed from the P5, they will try to stroke their ego with a "best of the rest" conference which would raid the MWC.

byu is public enemy #1 for the MWC and the worse they are, the better for us.
