According to this article Wyoming is the second fastest tempo in the country. Next weeks opponent Texas St is the slowest. Makes me wonder how Texas St's D will hold up when they practice every day against a much slower paced offense.

It is a positive for our defense as well, they will be able to catch their breath at low elevation and with more time in between plays.

Add to that, we avg. 80 offensive play a game and Texas St avgs. 66 play. So our defense has to defend 14 less plays then T St D. Air Force's avgs 68 plays a game with 24.9 secs between plays.

To an extent - if the defense can force a few 3 and outs. Texas State also has a rather great time of possession. Texas State is not a team we can overlook by any means.

Not saying we can overlook anyone, but with a team like Texas St TOP doesn't mean as much. Wyoming's TOP 24 mins 80 play a game avg. Texas St TOP 36 mins with 66 play avg. Their defense has to defend more plays than Wyoming's D. But you are right in that if Texas St scores on every drive and we don't match that they will win. Just thought those stats were interesting after hearing Dc say this week that TOP isn't that important if your scoring on most of your drives.

The first week of the season after we played Nebraska a guy I know on another forum broke down the fastest tempo teams by each half and in the 2nd half against Nebraska, Wyoming had the fastest tempo in the country and snapped the ball every 14.5 seconds in that 2nd half. We started scoring quite a bit in the 4th qtr. of that game. We should keep that pace up and i would think most teams we play will hit a wall in the 4th qtr. We should dominate 4th qtr's if they keep the pace up.

I imagine part of the reason for the slower oregon tempo is because of the blowouts they have been in have slowed them down a bit. We'll see at the end of the year if we are faster than them.....Could be.

Chip Kelly left to coach Eagles too - he may have had a thing or two to do with their speed.
