Ted Gilmore for OC?

I'm hearing rumors that he gave his notice to Nubb. Dave said that there would be 3 or 4 minorities on staff, so he fits that bill, and his team is prepping for a bowl game so he wouldn't be announced until after the Gator Bowl on the 1st. His salary at Nubb is $190,000. HCDC said that the Coordinators would be paid fairly high, but I don't know if he would be making what he is at Nubb, but there might be room to pay him in the $200,000 range.

Right now the staff looks like this:

HC - Dave Christensen

OC - ?
QB - ?
WR - ?
RB - Jason Ray (Mizzou)
TE - Jim Harding (HS, Mizzou)
OL - Jerry Montgomery (Northern Iowa)

DC - Marty English
DL - ?
OLB - Mike Fanoga (New Mexico State)
DB - Alex Grinch (New Hampshire)

Special Teams -

That is an interesting possibility. If this is true, we would be getting an OC who is loyal to UW because he played here, someone who was a recruiting coordinator at Nebraska (D1A - bcs), someone who is very familiar with offensive schemes similar to what we will use at UW, and someone who knows about coaching QBs, RBs, and WRs. This could be a win-win situation.

I hope it happens. I really think we can afford to pay him a tad bit more than what he is making at Nebraska, especially if fills dual roles (WR's and OC).

Gilmore would be an excellent OC.. if only for the reason that if Wyoming has success, and Christensen bolts, Gilmore would have experience to step in and lead Wyoming.

I like it as well, AFA has had a lot of success littering their staff with ex-Falcons. I think more important than the loyalty factor (that helps down the road), is the I've been here during the goodtimes, tradition, recruiting factor (more immediate benefit). People who were successful at UW should be better at recruiting/selling that idea to kids. If nothing else it has to help having someone on the staff talking about the ol days when we were competing for conference championships.

Just like with HC position we just need the best coaches available and ties to the school/area help but a good mix coaches from other areas also helps recruiting.

Personally I think it is a good fit and makes sense, I hope it happens.

Very good point. If Gilmore is the OC under Dave Christensen, he would be the obvious successor. Look at other programs, and how they have tabbed successors...it works (Texas, Florida State, Wisconsin, etc.).

It makes a lot of sense, especially after hearing Burman talk about building a program like Boise that continues to promote from within. Gilmore is the obvious choice. He's already interviewed for the head position, so when HCDC wins the conference championship in three years and wants to move on to greener pastures, Gilmore steps in with limited disruption to the program.

Looks like it isn't going to happen. The co-OC from San Jose state, Marcus Arroyo is reported as being the next OC.

Marcus' Bio:

From Rivals:
Look for Marcus Arroyo, who had been co-offensive coordinator at San Jose State, to be Wyoming's coordinator under new coach Dave Christensen. Wyoming's new defense coordinator is expected to be Marty English, who had been the Cowboys' linebacker coach

They might be right on this, but I don't put a lot of stock in what Rivals reports. Wasn't Marty English already confirmed as DC by Dave Christensen a week or two ago? Guess we will have to wait for the official announcement.

San Jose State runs a pretty wide open offense to my recollection.. but from SJSU? Really? Chase Gilmore, man!!

I agree, the guy from SJSU isn't real impressive to me.

SJSU (6-6) was bowl eligible again this season, but ultimately failed to secure a spot after losing its final three games. The brunt of the criticism for the collapse has been directed at offensive coordinators Steve Morton and Marcus Arroyo, with fan Web sites continuing to burn up with calls for the dismissal of both coaches.

That doesn't sound too good to me, but hopefully under the direction of Christensen, this will work out.

I am not overly impressed with the staff, with the exception of English of course. Must be a lot of "stuff" going on I have no clue about.
