He's been really high on the Pokes this whole preseason. Hopefully he shuts up some of the turds at CBS like Gottlieb.

Gottlieb is "ok" but he's of another Cowboy lover (Okla St), CBS seems to know a bit more about the lesser conferences than ESPN does, even though there's lots more of our games on their networks.
I've said it many many times b4, i can't wait for this BBall season to start up. I'm really optimistic and excited...really a make or truly break year for Papa Shyatt, imo, not that he's going anywhere anyway...T.G.

There is a danger in getting TOO hyped up about the prospects of a coming season. There is a big letdown when things don't work out. If you have been on this forum for very long you have seen it. The one thing questioning the basketball season is Larry Nance. The problem being that he hasn't played ball for 8 months. Does it mean he can't come back? No, of course not. But he can't be in peak condition and won't be until mid-season. Then it hits the fan, shit-wise, for the other teams.

Exactly. This is why I am trying to curb my enthusiasm for this season. There are several reasons why I could see what looks to be, on paper, a potential dream season turning into a nightmare.

First, Larry Nance. This one is pretty obvious, Larry has been out of the game for 8 months. Where most seniors are coming in to their last season with an extra year under their belt, Larry is going to be regressed from the last time we saw him on the court. While he may be healthy, he won't pick up where he left off, he will be behind that level and will have to work back up to it. Now will that take 2 games, 5, 10, 30, never??? The quicker he can get back to his old self, the higher the potential for this team. And, God forbid, there's always the chance for re-injury.

The other big reason I am a skeptic as of now is the way we seem to get bit in the ass every time we get high hopes. Injuries, arrests, transfers, etc. Something always seems to get us and I just want to be prepared in the event it happens.

Overall, I think this team has some great potential, but I am cautiously optimistic at this point. Hopefully, the stars can align and we can make a run to the tourney.

Good points.

Did you see Coach Shyatt's comments about Nance during the Utah scrimmage? It was something along the lines of "didn't play much, didn't play well".

That should be a firm reminder for all Cowboy fans to keep our expectations in check. It's unlikely that Nance miraculously becomes 100% (mentally and physically) in the two weeks between that scrimmage and the UNC game (or more importantly in the three weeks between that scrimmage and the CU game). This team is going to start the season behind the 8-ball due to Nance's health and will likely end up out of the NCAA tourney conversation early due to poor OOC performance.

If Nance puts it back together in time for conference play, the Pokes are going to be a handful (especially in Laramie), but our expectations should definitely be held in check.

There are only a couple of times in the last 15 years where UW has exceeded expectations in a revenue sport. That's not a trend, that's an identity.

What a bunch of pansy-assed pussies on this board. Watch out, don't get your hopes up too high - you might get your feelings hurt! I've had my feelings hurt so many times I can't count and I'm still here. I'm not going to go jump off a cliff or anything if it doesn't turn out the way I hope it will. I see the possibility of a very good season and also the possibility of it turning out to be less than I hope it will - that's college basketball, but I love it anyway. That's what keeps me coming back.

Agree 100%. Im a grown man I can handle dissapointment. It is more fun to get excited and think about the possiblities of watching a great team than to be a downer in an attempt to not be dissapointed in the event something bad happens. the last couple years I have been really excited to watch this team and the excitement grew as the season went along to only come crashing down both years but Im back and very excited again

Wish I'd read this thread before I posted my rant above. Now I sound like (as Jim Rome would say) a parrot.

Just toss the wet blankets in the clothes dryer. WYCowboy apparently needs to increase his "scroll-by" list to keep his sanity. ;)
