Agreed. I don't care where he stands on the depth chart, he is absolutely the leader of the team.

Some teams do a special teams captain as well, but Sam doesn't do anything other than hold kicks... right?

Yeah, but he is as much of a leader as anyone else on the team. I don't expect him to be a captain, just wouldn't surprise me if he was

Team Captains are not only picked based on their leadership abilities. The nature of the captain is to make decisions on the field and to communicate to the referees. If Sam isn't on the field why would they have him as a captain?
