Taran Brown transferring from UCSB

I was looking through the transfer list at Verbal Commits and saw Taran Brown on there. Where does he end up? It would be nice to see him put on a Wyoming jersey to finish his career. He's been a good player at UCSB and in my opinion would be an instant starter here.

6'7" and 190lbs is super skinny...a guy that height would need to put some weight on to play at Wyo, since he'd more than likely end up playing the 4 or 5 spot.

The biggest problem for Brown is that he already used his redshirt year, so he will lose a year of eligibility if he transfers to another D-1 institution. Basically he will have to sit a year and then just have one year to play.

It's usually tough to justify that situation. We have seen it in the MWC(Ogirri at UW, Iverson at CSU are a couple of recent examples), but it will limit his options.

I have only seen him play a couple of times, but I think he could help the Pokes. Has MWC level size and athleticism, but is definitely a tweener. Doesn't appear to have the handle to play the 3 in the MWC, but not bulky enough for the 4.

Verbal Commits says he has immediate eligibility. I agree with your last point though, he's definitely a tweener. I think he would fit in the perimeter based offense Shyatt ran this year.

I might be wrong about his eligibility. If he graduated already it will really enhance his options with 2 to play 2 and eligible immediately. Austin Etherington (transferring from IU to Butler) is a recent example this year of a player in that position that graduated in 3 years and had taken a redshirt.

. You think Papa Shy would have him play 3, when we had a 6'4-6'5 guy play 4 last year?

Yup. Height alone doesn't automatically put you in a certain position. Tons of factors that go into it.

Magic was 6'9 played PG, Charles Barkley 6'5 played PF.

Taran should have been developed as a 4 at UCSB. He wasn't. Their bad, but his skill set now is a shooter, versatile defender, and slasher.

Martinez was a 6'4" 2/3. It's all about skill set, brown plays like a guard. Nothing wrong with having a bigger guard that can rebound.

I say no the Chris Shields project and say we sign Brown. Has played at the d-1 level already and can contribute right away

I would like to agree, but Brown's tweets look like he is really enjoying Southern California. My guess is that he goes someplace with a similar climate.

It sounds like Taran had problems with consistency at UCSB....
