Just heard VanPelt say Smith is a poor man's Manzel and he is going to shock some people.

Smith has about 4 inches in height over Manzel.

Not trying to prop up Smith, but Manzel doesn't impress me all that much. I could be proven wrong. Like always!

Many scouts have said the same regarding Smith........but no combine invite so who knows. Although I think he was referring to just playmaking ability, etc and not the measurables. I am curious to see what Smith's 40 time will be since he is basically training for pro day.

paraphrase "he was flying around throwing the football all over the place"

Manchild has 2 things over Smith that scouts and teams like. Bigger hands and less concussions

On the other hand though, Smith doesn't have the attitude problems that Manchild has.

I think manzel and his issues are overblown.......say what you will he brings it in gameday.....but he did benefit from throwing to Evans. .. good oline_system...curious to see where he goes and how he does

None of his issues are overblown they are all there and they are all self inflected, Maybe he has learned from them and maybe he hasn't I'd never give up a 1st round pick in a QB heavy draft for a small guy. I don't expect him to be anything special just another QB.

You might hear "Drew Brees" from Manzel backers. But, it took Brees awhile to hit his stride. Brees also wasn't the head case Manzel appears to be.

I honestly dont think he is as big of a liability...he was young and dumb-still young......a franchise qb worthy of a first pick...no way....more worried about his game transitioning in the NFL than off field issues....

My knock on Manziel is that it seems his biggest asset is being able to extend the play and create "magic". That doesn't translate well to the NFL game. On one hand, the throwing windows aren't as forgiving and Johnny M isn't really that accurate. Several of his magic plays would have been INT in the NFL.

Secondly, a few films of Johnny and D coordinators will know his tendencies. Add in the freakish athletes of the NFL and the Johnny magic won't happen.

I think he is more of a development QB as opposed to an Andrew Luck type of QB.

Regarding the article and Smith, I think he still goes late, but I don't think his draft position will be reflective of his career.

I would take Derek Carr's arm talent over anything Manziel does on any day. You can't run around and improvise in the NFL and expect to stay healthy. Cam Newton has taken a beating and he's a giant compared to Johnny Manchild.

I'd lmao if he gets taken by Cleveland.

You might hear Ryan Leaf from the non backers, I mean every player can be compared to someone else. I think Manziel in Wyoming would have less accomplishments than Brett did and I think that says a lot about what your team can really do for you. I also think he made a draft stock mistake refusing to throw at the combine.

I think he will be taken early by a team willing to risk it all. But I still don't see him being some super QB next year. If he is I'll eat my words but he has a lot to prove imo.

I really hope Smith goes to the Cowboys in the 6th round, I think him learning under Romo for the next 2-3 years could make him a break out star when the time comes. I don't think Smith is ready to step in and start with a team and I think that would actually hurt his career. I wouldn't be shocked to see someone risk a 4-5 round pick on him and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go very late.

Everything is dependent on his Pro Day, There will be a lot of scouts in Laramie checking out Herron and Huff. He has to take complete advantage of that and he has to produce 4.5-4.6 40 speeds. If he runs in the 4.8 range he will have a real hard time.

Does that mean you think Brett would have won the Heisman if he played in the big 12?

It's a tough question, One I have considered a number of times. Do i think he would have won the Heisman I dunno. I think if he was in the Manziel family he would have had more of a chance to than if he wasn't.

I read an article on the Manziel family an interesting one, It really shows what coming from wealth can do. But it also shows IMO what it can't do. I don't think Manziel can carry a team on his back though the same adversity that Brett did no.

I think Brett is an overall smarter QB he has been through more has more integrity on and off the field and if he was behind the same strength of team that ran a spread offense at in a power 5 conference I think he would have produced higher statistical values than Manziel did. It doesn't mean he would have won anything but it doesn't change my mind.

Totally agree. One of the most exciting players I've seen in a long time.

I sure want my Arizona Cardinals to take a chance on him, good fit imo
Hey Glad I'm not the only one!

As a Vikings fan, I have a different way of measuring QBs.

If he's good, a true diamond in the rough, the Vikings will pass on Smith. Then, years later, whenSmith's Hall of Fame career is almost over, the Vikings will sign him.

If he's overrated, a sure bust in the NFL, the Vikings will trade everything they got to pick him up with an early draft pick.

It's actually pretty amazing that you can have all the game film in the world on a kid, watch him perform live and devote hours upon hours scouting a kid and still get someone who is a bust.

I hope my Oakland Raiders don't draft Manziel. We need a franchise quarterback but I don't think he is the answer.
