Summer Hoops Notes and Pics

Just a guess but maybe FYF is For Your Family? Shyatt seems to like to have a family atmosphere so just took a guess at it. Who knows though. I'm sure we will find out.

Shyatt and the Cowboys got a shoutout from Fran Fraschilla during the USA-Mexico game at the FIBA World Cup, in reference to former Cowboy Francisco Cruz.

Update on Justin James:

"He likes them a lot," said Fair. "I think he definitely is heavily considering them. I think they are definitely in his top two schools right now. Wyoming is the other school. They offered him and he took an official visit there as well."

Several other schools have also jumped into James' recruiting picture.

"The University of Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, VCU, Wichita State, Alabama and Florida Gulf Coast are a few of them (that are recruiting him)," said Fair.

(FYI: Kapono led the NBA in three-point shooting percentage two years in a row.)

I really hope we pick up Eric Turner. Kid has the most athletic ability I have seen by any kid we have recruited in a long time. Seriously can't believe he isn't being recruited heavier by bigger D1 schools but glad he isn't and hopefully we land him. Kid will be a star in college. Especially with the right coaching which Shyatt excels at developing players.

Yes, very good timing. Now, can you say a few words about JJ, so he'll verbal to the staff, too?!

Four for four (so far) on those five recruits who visited Laramie recently. Things are looking good, gents.

(Conway had already verballed and was up in Laramie on an unofficial.)

Florida small forward Eric Turner commits to Wyoming hoops

The rich just got richer.

The Wyoming men's basketball team received its fourth verbal commitment of the 2015 signing class on Wednesday, when 6-foot-5, 195-pound small forward Eric Turner pledged to become a Cowboy.

"It was the coaching staff and the environment," Turner said Wednesday. "When I went on my visit, it was so much better than what I expected."

UW men's hoops lands verbal commitment from Florida small forward Eric Turner

LARAMIE -- The pipeline continues from Florida to Laramie for the University of Wyoming men's basketball program.

Eric Turner, a 6-foot-5, 193-pound small forward from The Villages Carter High School in The Villages, Florida, verbally committed to UW Wednesday.

Turner joins Andrew Moemeka, a 6-8 forward from Lake City, Florida, as verbal commitments for UW's 2014-15 recruiting class from the Sunshine State. UW also has 6-4 senior guard Charles Hankerson Jr. and 6-8 freshman forward Tyrell Williams -- both from Miami -- on its current roster.

Florida small forward Eric Turner commits to Wyoming hoops

Turner is a rangy, athletic wing player who is adept at slashing to the basket, finishing at the rim and drawing fouls. While he said he would like to improve on his strength, leadership abilities and ball handling in his senior season, there was already plenty for Wyoming's coaching staff to like.

"I would say I'm a scorer, a playmaker and a great on-ball defender," Turner said of his game. "And I'm a competitor. I love to win."
