I feel the MWC is going to win the rest of our bowl games. Didn't see CSU coming back and I had hoped Fresno would lay it on USC, but we're 1-1 as I write this and SDS is winning. Yep, we take the rest...phxpoke said:
I agree with beav that CSU looking good hurts us in recruiting Colorado. It's not as bad for the other MWC teams, as none of them are as head-to-head as we are with CSU in this area. But overall I still root for all of the MWC teams in the bowls, as it helps recruiting on a conference-to-conference basis and gives our conference some cred. Right now, I feel we'll be on pretty equal footing with our conference foes going forward, whether they win their bowl games or lose them. Our problem was not the players. I think the NFL and the teams that our players are transferring to (Vanderbilt, TCU, Oklahoma State) proves that point. Most of our ills were simply a leadership vacuum. We actually had an idiot leading our program and it took us a while to figure it out.

We're part of the MWC, so if "they" all get really good, doesn't that include us? At the end of the day, it's every team for themselves, but on the larger stage (which we are also part of) it's also conference vs. conference. You have been paying attention, right? The MWC already blew AQ status the first time around. And we are certainly not going to be part of the new big conferences money league. But maybe, as the conference that in football, is always just under the big guys, we get a look on the next go-around. Otherwise, being a member of the MWC will mean we are fighting every year for 61st* place. It might end up no different than NDSU. As awesome as they are at their level, and the fact that they regularly beat FBS teams, right now they are basically playing for 124th place.BeaverPoke said:

Sorry to say (as it applies to CSU), but it absolutely helps us every time a MWC team wins a bowl...or even plays in a bowl.
Obviously, it helps with recruiting. Bohl's going to love having the chance to say it:
"You weren't offered at Nebraska/Texas/TCU? But you want to go to a good school, play on a big stage? Well, here, if we do it right, we play on that stage...against the PAC-10, you name it. This conference sent 5 teams to bowls last year. National TV. But you know what the big difference is? When you're playing against USC, you're actually going to be playing. You're not going to be number three on a chart because some stuck up coach thinks you're vertical leap is 2 inches low, or some damn thing. We're going to need you on the field, so the cameras can watch you putting the hurt on those boys. What do you say? You want to help take us there?"

I was at a sports bar in Fort Collins watching this game. I thought for sure CSU would get blown out before the game even started.
What a finish. Good game to start out the bowl season.
I am Pokes fan, Wyoming is my graduate school. But, I finished my undergraduate degree at North Dakota by taking a load of classes at CSU. So, I was kind of torn. I wanted CSU to win, but I don't want their win to affect the Pokes recruiting.
Then, I thought with Bohl at the helm, and Coach Mac at CSU, maybe both programs will build themselves up so that the Border War game will have more meaning than just the rivalry game between two bottom dwellers in conference.
Here's to hoping that happens...soon.

Sorry Beav, I didn't know you were joking. To be honest, I still don't understand the joke. It looked to me that you feel that all the other MWC teams are getting better while we are going to shit, so having CSU etc. in bowl games is not good for us. I was trying to point out that I believe it is good for us. Plus you didn't add in one of your little "Smiles" symbols that you do when you are joking. And I completely agree with you that the MWC winning bowl games is absolutely good for us. The conference had a terrible year OOC and needs to do well in the bowls to retain at least a little respect (although the MWC conference champ looked awful against USC and is a black eye for the conference).
