Stream Test

I know the Texas fans know about the stream now and of course they are welcome to watch but we might want to be careful about streaming the Longhorn Network to much or to soon before the game starts as the greater the chance it gets taken down if the Texas athletic department decides they want to shut it down.

Wyo2dal do you know how much of a chance there is for that to happen?
I've been streaming and moderating CFB for 5 years and it is a very rare thing for CFB streams to get shutdown. Not that it can't happen, but it's not likely. Not that it's a bad idea to wait to list the stream, either. Like I know Wyo2dal is going to stream it but I'm not listing his stream on my forum until 30 minutes before the game. If another stream shows up on my site I'll pop over here and post it.

Sounds good ft420. Thanks! :thumb:

Hi Cowboy fans,

I can tell you this about Longhorn Network. It came on the air the week before the opening football game
last season. It is broadcast from campus at our communication department by ESPN. I myself graduated
from the Communication School at UT. The production work is really good and everything is in HD.

ESPN is paying the University 300 million dollars for a 20 year deal to broadcast the programs there.
The problem was and still is that ESPN wanted more than the major carriers wanted to pay for carrying
LHN. So only the small carries picked it up since they didn't have to pay as much. So Texas fans were told
to contact their providers and ask for LHN to be added. This never worked and resulted in maybe getting
some free channels from your provider to keep you happy.

On the other hand you had Texas A&M people threatening to leave their carrier if they ever added LHN.
Yes, they hate us that much. They swamped the Uverse Facebook page the last few days with withdrawal
threats. The tide of unhappy Texas fans had started to turn toward ESPN and the UT athletic department
over the last few months as football season approached as the first two games are on LHN and there may
well be another added later this season. Last season virtually no one saw the two games on LHN but Texas
fans didn't complain as much because a deal would certainly be made before this season. When it wasn't
as the season got near the complaints became more severe to the point that they knew they had to make some kind of deal quick. ESPN was asking major carriers to pay national prices for a mostly regional
product. They wanted the major carriers to put LHN on their basic program tier all over the country like
ESPN channel is. The major carriers said no and that is where it's been till yesterday. ESPN finally blinked
with AT&T Uverse. The deal with them is that LHN is on thier basic tier only in the State of Texas and on the high end tiers in the rest of the country.

Now this was a pretty shrewd move by ESPN for these reasons. AT&T has been a corporate sponsor of the Texas vs. OU game the last few years and they would like to continue in that vein. Also while they are a major carrier they are the smallest one so ESPN is losing less money giving this deal to them. ESPN is hoping that now that they have a major carrier on board it will ramp up the pressure on the other big carriers and yes many are leaving their carriers at least in Texas to sign up with Uverse. Unfortunately Uverse is not available in many of the more rural parts of Texas which also unfortunately includes me. Also AT&T also partners with Direct TV in some things like internet service so there some thought they would join in with Uverse soon. ESPN is hoping for a domino falling scenario.

Now that you have some backround I will go back to streaming which is the topic here. With LHN only getting good advertising revenue last year during live game coverage they carried half of our home games
for basketball and every home baseball game. This also caused a lot of reaction as all those basketball games had always been televised either by some network on either a national or regional basis. Also all home baseball games had been webcast by the University using a good production with replays and a post game interview with Coach Garrido. They even webcast all NCAA playoff games not covered by ESPN with the press conferences that followed. Audio was provided by our radio play by play broadcast. Longhorn baseball has a large following in this area and when those webcasts went away there was even more outrage.

So pirate streams were born and for whatever reason were mostly left alone by UT during football and basketball. It was during baseball season they shut them down when they could find them. I guess with 30+
home games it gave them more of an opportunity. I and other provided feeds for nearly all baseball games last year. Since I didn't have LHN I provided all the road games and found links for every road series but one.
By the way I did use some from Wiziwig.com. I saw that a moderator from that site post here and believe me they do a great service for college baseball viewing. I thank you sir and hope you will continue your excellent work. For home games we were using two streams one from a guy in Texas and one In Virginia.
The Texas link went down, but he was careless, he left his stream on for hours after games. I was not surprised when his stream was closed. The one in Virginia lasted till the next to last game of the year before being shut down.

So to answer the question about getting shut down I doubt it. The powers that be are quite busy this weekend with this Uverse launch and probably not interested in streams. I can tell you how this Uverse thing
has affected people. The Longhorn forum that I use posted about this stream on your forum and got no replies, not one. It's all about the Uverse thing right now in Longhorn land and carriers yet to come. I on the other hand do hope to use your stream, but I think I have other possibilities too, wont know till game time. I have played the streaming game as a source and a user. This following your alma mater can be a hard thing at times as you know. Your guy in Dallas is doing a great job and forever may he be able to do that for you and your team when the situation arises. I thank him for his feed and hope we all get to use it and maybe we can do the same for you some time in the future. I wish you all the best of luck in streaming and in your athletic competitions except maybe this weekend. :) Thank you for your time and please forgive me for being so long winded. I just wanted to give you some backround information and as you can I see I have a passion for this just as you do. Also if for some reason something happens to this feed I understand there may well be one on firstrowsports.eu. I think some here or maybe your other forum said firstrowsports.com, but that was closed down last year by the powers that be. So they moved to a site in Europe to avoid the American authorities. Once again thank your for your time. You have a very nice forum board here.

I am that guy..... and thanks for the kind words about my baseball thread on wiziwig. Nice post. I really appreciate your insight into the corporate side of things. LHN has certainly been a fiasco from the feedback I have gotten. If you do not object, I am going to re-post your message on my forum. Anonymously of course. If you do, I'll delete it. Thanks.

btw... There are encouraging signs of a stream from one of our guys, too.

Do you happen to know what the max Wyo2dal attendance was? I know there was a crapload of Texas fans in there and I saw it peak over 4k.

I found out ESPN was streaming my tweets in the Gamecast window.. so I tried real hard not to say anything about the livestream on Twitter in case ESPN people were watching..

But really.. how pathetic is it that your stream had 4900 people viewing.. that's probably more people watching your stream than what was actually watching on LHN.

if anything....lhn should charge their advertisers with your extra viewership factored into the ratings
