Strategic plan

Imo, this sums up lack of success at WYO athletics. Also my opinion that this strategic plan wouldn't pass an undergraduate class.

It is full of stated goals and devoid of actionable plans or accountability. There is no mention of starting points (spending, sponsors, etc). There is no mention of performance indicators and metrics. There is no mention of quarterly or even yearly review of goals, metrics, indicators, etc. There is no actionable items mentioned and is completely devoid of any language that could be construed as accountability should actionable items not lead to improvement in key performance indicators.

This is a great summation of the culture of mediocrity. How can athletics improve without clear MEASUREABLE and TARGETED goals, clear actionable items to achieve those goals, and clear performance indicators to evaluate how effective the actions are? Really unbelievable.

The Athletic Department has failed on two goals:

Win conference championships on a team and individual level. Recruit and retain student-athletes who will compete for championships.
 
It looks spiffy. But with the most visible sport (football) flailing like a bird with a broken wing on a continual basis it sets the tone of mediocrity.
 
If you've ever had the displeasure of developing a strategic plan, you'll know how bad this one. Outside of winning championships there's no other measurable goal with metrics. Take the facilities for example. Hell, you could say you changed toilet handles to make the toilets better and fall under these goals. Salaries? How about top x% in the conference. If you gave someone this plan, they wouldn't know what needed to be done to achieve the goals. That makes it a failure.

Of course, with measurable goals and metrics comes accountability if you're stated goals and metrics aren't met. Keeping things vague keeps accountability vague.
