Still amazed by how quickly we turn negative

So it was a brutal week for the Pokes bball team. We can't hit a jumper, but... This team is amazingly athletic. A good portion of this team are playing D1 games for the first time.

I have seen a couple games in person and the DU game on TV. I still have never seen a UW team as long and athletic as this team. Granted, I have only been following Wyoming sports since the mid eighties, but still. This team is quick and will learn not to pick up the "dumb" fouls. I do think we will see silly turnovers all year as that is unfortunately part of having a very athletic team.

With Afam in the lineup and healthy we would have beat both Monmouth and Hampton. Losing our only real threat from three really allowed both teams to pack it in close. DU had no answers for us in the first half. The second half Scott outcoached Schroyer, but it didn't help that no shots fell. Please note we had some very good looks that we just missed. Losing Afam the last five minutes didn't help, since he was having a big game.

We also have beat two decent D1 teams in Pepperdine and Boise State. The Pokes just need a leader to emerge, that hasn't happened, but it will.

Has everyone forgotten that we graduated four starters from last year's team? Ogirri was Schroyer's only guy from those four and look what a second half he had. This is truly the first time in years, where I am thinking we will legitimately be better next year and not saying, but too bad Ewing, Richardson, etc are graduating. This team loses no one next year.

I am sorry for the rambling, but this team deserves more of a shot than just seven games before we judge them so harshly.

I don't think people are turning negative to quickly. This is Heath's third year and he's had some of the worst losses in UW history, and that is the truth. I agree that we'll be better next year, and hopefully we'll continue to improve this year, but there is no excuses for losing to Hampton and Monmouth at home, period. My faith in Shroyer bringing this team to anything more than a fifth place finish ever, including this year, is in serious doubt.

I can definitely see that. The team that he inherited two + years ago was a disaster. We had two guards and nothing else. One of the guards wouldn't even play for him. Remember the Air Force game three years ago when we lost 88 - 43. We didn't have Ewing and that was it, we rolled over.

I'll take Schroyer over McClain any day. At least this team plays defense. McClain had no offensive sets and they didn't play defense, except for his first two seasons.

There is no excuse for losing to Monmouth, South Dakota State, and Hampton at home, that is truly embarrasing and absolutely the ugliest games at the AA that I remember. However, I am willing to let this team gel and see what their talent level is. We won't go 1-21 from 3 point land every game... At least hopefully...

Do i think McClain is a better coach, ya i do. He did have 2 conference championship in his time here, which is more than any coach can say, in any major sport sense Paul Roach. People always bring up he never recruited his best teams, but from everything i Can find he recruited Josh Davis and Marcus Bailey. I don't know if this is true , but i assume sense he started coaching in 98 that he recruited Davis and certainly Bailey who was a true freshmen in 99 and Davis in 98. Sense his best seasons were 01, 02 and 03 I assume he recruited the majority of these players.

This being said I think the problems with academics was a fair reason for him being fired, although there is debate as to wither Shroyer has received more support in that area. Either way he probably had to go, but the i think the majority of us are coming to the conclusion that Burman made the wrong decision on hiring his Buddy, who didn't have much of resume in the first place.

If people believe McClain was a bad coach then how bad is Shroyer if his best teams struggle to be as good as McClains worst teams. Do i agree there are ups and downs in every program, yes. Is there hope with this team, yes there is, mostly because we are so little time together, and i agree that there is a ton of talent there. If Heath has a redeeming quality its certainly that he has ability to recruit, i was reading about a big time possible recruit coming that'b nice. Here's to Hope
