Step Away From the Cliff

the field was wet which makes it difficult to make crisp cuts for our wide receivers to go fast and it makes it harder for brett to grip the ball and put everything into his throws.

Before the torrential rain storm and three hour delay Brett was lights out and we were really marching down the field. After the break everybody on the offensive side of the ball was out of sync and we had three and outs like crazy. That caused our defense to be on the field longer and consequently made their offense (especially run game) look very good.

I chalk up this loss to dumb luck and a determined Texas State team. I agree we win this game more often then not but tonight just wasn't our night. If we were a power running team the weather isn't an issue but we rely on speed and great running routes by the WR and timing by our qb and it simply wasn't on tonight after that storm.
dumb luck? I mean whatever makes you happy. And I wouldn't say Brett was "lights out" before the three hour delay. In fact, there were only a few times where it seemed like he was clicking the entire night - including the first quarter prior to the delay.

Our first quarter wasn't amazing admittedly so we started slow. Then the second quarter really got going and brett was making completion after completion and was just going down the field at will. Once that delay hit he was never the same and our offense never clicked again. We rely on rythem and this game we just didn't have it after the storm. Texas State did play well and their power running game wasn't nearly as hampered as our passing game. That qb of yours has a great future though, he played very well for his first ever start.

Brett was 10/13 for 130some yards and a TD before the delay. It wasn't pretty, but he was rolling.
Yep. Before the delay, we were getting into a groove that Texas State was having a hard time slowing down. After the delay, it was like watching the robot, the worm, the macarena, break dancing, and the hand jive all at once. No one was in tune with eachother and it showed.

Is this the WyoNation version of the Harlem Shake? Wyokie does a hell of a break dance.

No, the background music was Beethoven's 5th.

Why cant we have a power running package when this type of shit happens?
We have a huge O line power backs and a good blocking tight end. Oh thats right we will never go under center and sell out our Missouri style spread attack. Still you can power run out of two back pistol set.

We tried power running and our line got manhandled. I think we had to have our passing game on point (and always will) to beat most teams. We tried to run and they were getting drilled in the backfield.

Our O-Line is not really that big (some of those guys are pretty tall but they aren't that thick/strong for the FBS level), and the really struggle to generate a strong push off the line. Wick runs with good power, but he's not that big. Basically we get dominated at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball just like we have for the majority of DC's tenure.
