From the Director's Chair. . .
"Like every other Cowboy football fan, we can't wait to start the 2011 season on Saturday. At the same time we ask for your patience, especially in our Ford Stadium and Summit View parking lots, while we work through the logistics."

"We are excited about our fall sports. Soccer earned a big victory at Colorado on the weekend, and the volleyball team won its UniWyo Wyoming Invite. With the opening of football, and cross country (Friday) seasons this weekend, all of our fall offerings will be underway. We wish all of our student-athletes and coaches the very best."

Downtown Kickoff Set for Saturday. . .
A lot of Laramie folks have worked very hard to make the first annual Downtown Kickoff a success. The event is set for Saturday between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., on Grand Avenue between First and Second Streets. The Laramie Main Street project is sponsoring the event as a welcome to all Wyoming fans coming for the Weber State game.

There will be food, music (bands from the Snowy Range Music Festival), tons of prizes to be raffled and a huge UW athletics presence. The Voice of the Cowboys Dave Walsh will be the emcee, and Wyoming coaches, student-athletes, the cheer squad, the UW band and Pistol Pete himself will be there.

Raffle tickets are $5 each or five for $20 dollars. Drawings for the raffle will take place at 2:30 p.m. on the corner of Second and Grand. Purchasers need not be present to win. Laramie Main Street will announce the winners at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

It should be quite an event, and a great start to the opening of the Cowboy football season.

Hall of Fame. . .
The 19th annual University of Wyoming Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame is this Friday at the UW Convention Center at the Hilton Garden Inn. The event starts at 6 p.m.

As usual it's another terrific class including volleyball coaching great Mike English, NCAA track champion Wesley Maiyo, the school's first wrestling All-American Dr. Robert Mason, track great Shauna Smith, swimming Olympian Scott Usher, quarterback great Jim Walden and that unforgettable Sweet 16 basketball team from 1986-87.

Tickets are available at the athletic department's main office (766-2292).

Tailgate Park. . .
One of the great traditions of a Cowboy football weekend is Tailgate Park, south of War Memorial Stadium. For the Weber State game, the park area will open at 4:30 p.m. and continue through 6:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

There will be a kids zone, a 9'x12' videoscreen showing live college football games from around the country, and the following food vendors: Pit Crew BBQ, McAlister's Deli, Shadow's Pub & Grill, Papa John's Pizza, Coaches Scoop Frozen Desserts and Mulligan's Pub.

Groups in this week's Tailgate Park include the Buddy Walk, the UW Alumni Association, The Stampede and the Cowboy Joe Club.

Don't forget the Cowboy Walk. . .
Another tradition on a Wyoming football Saturday is the Cowboy Walk. Fans are asked to gather at the south end of the Ford Stadium Lot two hours and forty five minutes prior to Saturday's 7 p.m. kickoff. The Pokes will leave the Hilton Hotel and walk along the south end of the lot. They will enter War Memorial Stadium at Gate 3, and walk across Jonah Field to the Rochelle Athletic Center. Western Thunder and the Spirit Squads will lead the team from the hotel.

Kids Club Features Ice Cream Party. . .
Kids Club members as well as those who would like to join may stop by Tailgate Park at 4:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the Weber State game. Members may and pick up their t-shirt and pass for the 2011-12 UW Kids Club and enjoy ice cream. Kids come and join and have some ice cream!

From the Ticket Office. . .
Remember student pickup for the Nebraska game is going on this week at the Union Buy-Back windows. Those windows are open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. the rest of this week, and 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. next week. The ONLY way for students to get into the Nebraska game is to pick up tickets. Students must have tickets to enter the gates.

The three-pack promotion is underway for the Cowboy football season. You can pick any three games (other than Nebraska) for the low price of $78 for adults and $39 for students.

There are still Weber State tickets available at $35 for adults and $17 for students. The ticket office will be open Labor Day from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., to sell for the Texas State game.

Season tickets for both men's and women's basketball seasons are now on sale.

Cowboy Joe Club News. . .
If you haven't marked September 23rd on your calendar, you need to. That's the night of the Cowboy Joe Club Auction presented by Infinity Power & Controls. The 25th annual is scheduled for the Little America Convention Center at Cheyenne.

What's Happening. . .
The cross country team opens its season Friday at 6:00 p.m. hosting the Wyoming Invitational at the Jacoby Golf Course.

After its tournament championship last weekend, the Cowboy Volleyball team heads on the road to compete at the Drake University Invitational at Des Moines.

Having won two in a row, the Cowgirl Soccer team remains on the road meeting Eastern Washington at Cheney, Wash, on Sunday.
