A Summer for Refurbishing. . .
Several of the facilities in UW's athletic plant will receive a facelift this summer. Both the playing surfaces in the Arena-Auditorium and the UniWyo Sports Complex will be resurfaced this summer. Jonah Field in War Memorial Stadium also will be refurbished. Not only will regular maintenance be done on the field, but the new Mountain West Conference logo will be sewn into the turf. All three projects should be completed by August 15. Work also continues on the Ford Stadium Lot east of War Memorial and Tailgate Park south of War Memorial Fieldhouse. Tailgate Park's new grass surface is scheduled to be laid this week.
Football Matchups Announced. . .
In case you haven't seen it, the Mountain West Conference announced the matchups for the league when it increases to 10 members in football beginning in 2012. The league will add Fresno State, Nevada and Hawaii in 2012, to join Boise State who begins its affiliation this upcoming season. The eight-game conference format means that each team will play four league games at home and four on the road. This means that there will be one conference opponent that each institution does not play each season. During 2012 and 2013, Wyoming will not play Hawaii. The earliest Wyoming would play the 'Bows is the 2014 season. The Mountain West Board of Directors also adopted an eight-game conference format for the 2014 football campaign. The conference rotation of opponents for that season and beyond will be determined at a later date.
Wyoming's football-opponent format for 2012 and 2013 includes Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State and San Diego State at home in 2012 and Fresno State, Nevada and New Mexico on the road in 2012. In 2013, the Pokes will play Fresno State, Nevada, New Mexico and UNLV at home, and Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State and San Diego State on the road.
Cowboy Joe Club News. . .
Century-level members now have their opportunity to order single-game tickets for the Nebraska game. Those members have until June 24 to submit their request (they are eligible for two additional tickets to that game). As mentioned previously, due to the high volume of requests, it is possible not all members will be accommodated at this level. Century member requests will be allocated on a priority-point basis. Any requests that are not filled will be placed on a waiting list. If tickets do become available as many requests as possible will be filled.
This is a busy week for the Club's golf series. The tour visits Jackson on Friday, Rock Springs on Saturday and Buffalo on Monday. The host courses are Teton Pines Country Club in Jackson, White Mountain Golf Course in Rock Springs, and the Buffalo Golf Club at Buffalo.
