We're Into the State...
As the UW athletics seasons are winding down, this is the time of year when members of the athletic department reach out to the people of Wyoming. UW outreach is underway. Members of the external staff have begun their tour of the state meeting with media outlets in 24 Wyoming communities. Response has been outstanding for the Dave Christensen Football camps sponsored by Infinity Power and Controls. The camp tour--for youth kindergarten through 12--will include stops at Laramie, Cheyenne, Sheridan, Gillette, Casper and Rock Springs. Cost is $55 for pre-registration (prior to May 15) and $65 day of the event. Cost includes lunch, camp t-shirt, and football instruction (from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.). Openings remain for the camps which begin June 5 and continue through June 11. For questions call 307-766-3155 or register online at coachchristensen.com.

Volleyball and tennis will be hosting camps through the state as well. Volleyball will be in Worland (July 16-17), Evanston (July 18-20) and Douglas (July 23-24). Tennis will host camps at Sheridan (June 11-15), Casper (June 25-27) and Cody/Powell (June 28-30).

The Cowboy Joe Club's Golf Series begins in earnest on May 11 at Riverton. That will be the first of 13 summer golf events throughout the state hosted by the Club.

Cowboy Golfers Compete at League Championships This Week. . .
The 2012 Mountain West Golf Championships begin tomorrow at Tucson, Arizona. Head Coach Joe Jensen feels good about his team's chances for an excellent showing at the tourney which will be played at OMNI Tucson National Golf Club. The Pokes have been playing well of late. "I have been impressed with our preparation all spring," Jensen said. There's no doubt the field will be challenging. Three league teams are ranked in the top 20 including UNLV which is ranked fourth in the country. San Diego State and New Mexico also are ranked. Wyoming's five players will be seniors Mike May and Casey Ruff, junior Clinton Boutelle, sophomore Eric Parish and redshirt freshman Eddie Stewart. Boutelle carries the best stroke average into the tournament for the Pokes at 74.52.

Around the Chutes. . .
Congratulations to the Pokes' Clayton Kirven who was one of six Mountain West football student-athletes named to the 2012 Hampshire Honor Society. That announcement came from the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. The Society is comprised of student-athletes from all divisions of college football who maintained a 3.2 grade point average or better throughout their college career.

Two members of the Cowgirl tennis team were named to the Mountain West All-Conference Team. Sophomore Veronica Popovici and junior Simona Synkova were named First-Team All-Conference performers in singles play and were selected to the All-Conference Doubles Team as well. The Cowgirls lost in the tournament semifinals to TCU.

How about Jenna Mann at the Glenn Morris competition last week! Mann had one of her best days, and one of the best performances in school history for the track program in the heptathlon. Outdoor track is competing at the Front Range Championships this week at Colorado Springs. The MW Conference Track Championships are next week, also at Colorado Springs.
