Cowboy Joe Golf Series off to Record-Breaking Start. . .
The Cowboy Joe Club Golf Series got off to a great start last weekend in Riverton and Worland with record-breaking numbers produced by both cities. The Riverton and Worland tournaments raised nearly $45,000 combined. There were 86 sponsors and 255 players involved in the two events. The Club sends huge thank-yous to Garth Yeates in Riverton, and Terry Wolf and Wally Wallace in Worland who were instrumental in putting together the two tournaments. Another special thanks must go to the tournament's title sponsors US Energy Corps and Legacy Reserves Operating. The support of those two companies was invaluable.
The next stop on the tour is this Saturday (May 19) at Gillette's Bell Nob Golf Club. That tournament will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, and walk ups are welcome. Registration begins at 7 a.m., and spots are available for golf. It is not too late to register! Call 307-766-6242 or visit here to register.
As of today, the Club's membership has reached 3,402. Of that total, almost 400 are new members this year. The Club goal is to sign 5,000 or more members during its Drive for 5,000 initiative.

In conjunction with the UW Alumni Association, the athletics department is offering 2012 UW graduates an opportunity to purchase season football tickets at a reduced rate. If you are a 2012 graduate contact the ticket office at 307-766-4850 for details, and you can receive a 25% discount on season tickets. It's a savings of $49.
Season tickets are on sale, and good seats remain. Tickets are $195 for the season--a $35 savings over buying single-game tickets. Got a family? The Cowboy Family Plan is a great value. The 2012 soccer schedule has been finalized, and soccer season tickets are on sale. The price for next season is $40. The Cowgirls will host 12 home matches at the Louis S. Madrid Soccer Pitch. The schedule features four 2011 NCAA Tournament qualifiers. The home season opens Monday, Aug. 14, when the Cowgirls host Colorado School of Mines. Tickets are on sale online and renewals will go out by the beginning of next week.
FYI, the ticket office will be closed on Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day.

Response has been terrific for the Dave Christensen Football camps sponsored by Infinity Power and Controls. The camp tour--for youth in grades kindergarten through 12th (grade in fall 2012)--will include stops at Laramie, Cheyenne, Sheridan, Gillette, Casper and Rock Springs. Cost is $65 and includes lunch, camp t-shirt, and football instruction from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Openings remain for the camps which begin June 5, and continue through June 11. Register online here.
Cowboy basketball's Luke Martinez has been invited by the Northern Arapaho Tribal Education Department to speak at two schools on the Wind River Reservation this weekend. The Cowboy junior will speak to the 23 graduating seniors at Wyoming Indian High School's commencement on Sunday, May 20, before visiting St. Stephens Indian School on Monday, May 21. A native of Bismarck, ND, Martinez is enrolled as a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, which is located in the north central part of North Dakota.
A total of 14 UW track and field student-athletes have earned NCAA bids. They will compete in the NCAA West Preliminary Round. The 14 are Garrett Zans (3,000-meter steeplechase), Taylor Kelting (5,000-meter run), Greg Miller (10,000-meter run), Nick Ekel (10,000-meter run), Lenyn Leonce (long jump), Jeremiah James (triple jump), Joe Plante (discus), Paul Thomas (discus), Henry Ferreira (javelin), Candace Wollert (800-meter run), Erin Kirby (400-meter hurdles), Mollie Dahl (shot put), Shreese Daniels (shot put) and Ashley Hutchinson (hammer)
Congrats to the 10 UW track and field student-athletes who earned all-conference honors. All-Mountain West selections are given to the top three finishers in each event at the Outdoor Championships which were conducted last weekend. The Cowboy honorees are seniors Nick Ekel, Jeremiah James and Greg Miller, juniors Henry Ferreira and Joe Plante and sophomore Garrett Zans. The Cowgirls who were selected include senior Ashley Hutchinson, and sophomores Erin Kirby, Jenna Mann and Candace Wollert. The 4-by-400 meter relay team of Audrey West, Lindsey Simmons, Samantha Kee and Kirby also earned all-conference honors for finishing third.
Poke senior strong safety Luke Ruff has been named to the watch list for the 2012 Lott Trophy. A native of Castle Rock, CO, Ruff was named as one of four Wyoming team captains for the 2012 season. Sponsored by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, the award is given to a student-athlete who exhibits the same characteristics Ronnie Lott embodied during his Hall of Fame playing career.
Wrestlers Joe LeBlanc and Alfonso Hernandez have been named to the 2012 National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Team. It was LeBlanc's third-straight selection to the team. To qualify, wrestlers must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, been an NCAA qualifier or won 60 percent of their total schedule.
Two former Cowboys, Josh Biezuns and Alvester Alexander have signed free-agent contracts with the Chicago Bears. They join Tashaun Gipson (Cleveland) and Brian Hendricks (Washington) who also received free-agent offers.
