The Bucking Horse and Rider Heads to Haiti. . .
Seventeen current and former Wyoming student-athletes will embark on the experience of a lifetime this May 7-13. Wyoming in Haiti will connect these football, volleyball and soccer Cowboys and Cowgirls with Haitian children four years of age and up. The Wyoming chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is organizing the trip through the church of Lyonel Narcisse, father of former Cowboy Ruben Narcisse who was killed in a automobile accident in 2010. The experience for the Wyoming contingent will include teaching athletic skills to the children as well as working at other jobs to help the people in a country that has experienced so much tragedy. The group also will be bringing several hundred pairs of shoes for the Haitian children received through donations.
The Wyoming in Haiti initiative will organize several fundraising efforts for this project. Dave Christensen and the Cowboy football team will be involved in a Football Fun Day which will be one of the largest of these fundraisers. The event is scheduled for the morning of the Cowboys' annual Spring Game on April 21. The event will run from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium prior to the game which kicks off at 2 p.m. The entire football team will be on the field to interact with children and run drills as well as sign autographs. The event is limited to youth eighth grade and under. Special Wyoming in Haiti t-shirts will be available for $15 of which $10 will help defray the trip costs. Shirts, as shown below, also will be available at the Brown and Gold Outlet beginning next Monday.
Donations will be accepted at the Spring Game. To date 45 percent of the $40,000 needed for the trip has been raised, according to the trip organizer, Aaron Frude of the FCA. To donate to this terrific initiative, please contact Frude at 307-760-1391.
"The church we are working with is called the Haiti Premiere Eglise de Christien," Frude said. "This ministry is concerned not only for the physical, but emotional and spiritual development of these children. Having a sport experience with collegiate athletes will be of great encouragement to them. We are excited about this opportunity because sports have played such a huge role in our lives and we believe this is a tremendous opportunity to use some of our gifts and talents for the benefit of others."

The next event is set for Friday, May 11, at the Riverton Country Club. That tourney will start at 12:30 p.m.
