Homecoming 2012. . .
One of the great things about collegiate athletics is the tradition associated with every program. Homecoming is one of those traditions. It brings back the alums and with them the great memories of our college days. Saturday is Wyoming’s 88th Homecoming game, and the 63rd in War Memorial Stadium. This year’s Homecoming celebration is made even more special by the fact that Wyoming hosts its old rival Air Force, and it will be Military Appreciation Day as well. The Cowboys and Falcons kick off at 5 p.m. Saturday evening and the game is sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of Wyoming. The traditional Homecoming Parade begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, and the theme is On This Land We Put Our Brand. This year’s Grand Marshal is highly-decorated Vietnam veteran, Lee Alley. The Distinguished Alumni are: Harriett “Liz” Byrd, M.A. Elementary Education 1976; Gregory C. Dyekman, BS Accounting 1977 and JD in 1980, and the late Joseph B. Meyer, BA Mathematics in 1964 and JD in 1967. This year’s Medallion Service Award recipient is Thomas E. Davidson, BS Agriculture in 1961. Tickets for the Cowboy-Falcon game are $40 for adults and $20 for youth, and may be ordered online here, by calling 1-877-WYO-FAN1, or by stopping by the ticket office. Homecoming is always the time to renew friendships and begin new ones. Tailgate Park will be open from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. It is FREE and open to the public. Tailgate Park will include the Danno and Have Fun Will Travel Band performing on the Pepsi Stage, Food and Beverage Vendors (Pit Crew BBQ, McAlister's Deli, Shadow's Pub and Grill, Papa John's Pizza, and Mulligan's Pub.) Both 1290 KOWB and 1240 KFBC will have a live radio remote. The Brown 'N Gold Outlet will be on hand with all the latest Cowboy gear. Check out displays from Union Wireless, Rocky Mountain Oncology, CoPSA, Pepsi, Deadwood Chamber of Commerce, WYDOT Aeronautics, Wyoming Air National Guard, CenturyLink, Wind River Casino, Laramie GM Auto Center, Wyoming Republican Party and the Cowboy Joe Pony. We would also like to welcome the following groups to Tailgate Park: BlueCross BlueShield of Wyoming, ISC Inc., SAE Fraternity, and ASUW. See you Saturday.

Are You Ready for the Car Push. . .
The 37th annual Homecoming Car Push is scheduled for Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Southwest Ramp of War Memorial Stadium. There are two weight categories, 1000 pounds (1000-1199) and 1200 pounds (1200-1399). Teams must sign up by tomorrow afternoon by contacting Shelley Heward at [email protected]. It is a free event and the winning team will receive an exclusive car push champion t-shirt. The Car Push is a Homecoming tradition which began with the Cowboy wrestling team competing against the Cowboy ski team in 1975. It has been an annual event, and a fun one, ever since.

Special prices and packages for faculty and families are available. Season tickets also are available online here or by calling the Wyoming Athletics Ticket office.

Wyoming Wrestling Starts Wednesday. . .
Wyoming’s highly-touted wrestling team begins regular-season practice tomorrow. Expectations are tremendously high for the Pokes and their head coach Mark Branch. This does not seem possible, but Branch begins his fifth year as director of the Cowboy program, and what a job he’s done of building Wyoming into a national-caliber program. Top returnees for the Pokes include sophomore Zach Zehner, junior Patrick Martinez and senior Alfonso Herandez, all of whom qualified for the NCAA Championships last season. Wyoming is ranked No. 25 in the country heading into the season. By the way, the Cowboys are members of the Western Wrestling Conference. There are six members of the WWC, including Wyoming, Air Force, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Utah Valley and Northern Colorado. Season tickets are $50 for the general public and $45 for faculty and staff.

Big Weekend for Soccer. . .
The Cowgirl soccer team hosts a pair of Mountain West Conference opponents this weekend on the pitch of the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Then on Sunday, the Cowgirls battle Boise State. That one begins at 1 p.m. Sunday is Kick for the Cure and any fan wearing pink to the game will receive FREE admission! Wyoming is currently 7-4-2, and 0-1-1 in league play.

From the Compliance Office (Boosters Involvement with student-athletes: Extra Benefits)…
UW student-athletes shall not receive any extra benefits. The term “extra benefit” refers to any special arrangement by a booster to provide a student-athlete, his or her relatives or friends with a benefit that is not generally available to the institution’s students and their relatives or friends. An example of an “extra benefit” would be any discount or credit, free or reduced-cost service for a student-athlete, a loan, or an automobile. There may be situations where something may be questionable as an “extra benefit.” The best rule of thumb is always “ask before you act.” If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact our compliance staff, Jessica Kumke, Director of Compliance – (307) 766-4960 or Peter Prigge, Compliance Assistant – (307) 766-3795.
